Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Power BI Developer with a strong background in data visualization, BI solution design, and insurance industry analytics. The ideal candidate will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions. This role is onsite in Chicago, IL, requiring close collaboration with business users, data teams, and leadership to deliver high-impact insights and reporting frameworks.

Responsibilities
Design end-to-end Power BI architecture, including data modeling, DAX calculations, Power Query, and data refresh strategies.
Lead the development of enterprise-grade dashboards and reports tailored to insurance business needs (claims, policy, underwriting, risk, actuarial, etc.).
Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, and business analysts to define BI requirements and translate them into scalable reporting solutions.
Optimize data models for performance and usability within Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop.
Implement row-level security, access controls, and user roles across reports and workspaces.
Standardize Power BI development practices, governance models, and deployment pipelines.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers and analysts on Power BI best practices.
Support self-service BI initiatives by developing reusable datasets and semantic models.
Integrate Power BI with data sources such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, SQL Server, and cloud storage platforms.
Stay updated with the latest Power BI features and industry trends, especially in the context of insurance data analytics.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in BI/reporting and data visualization.
4+ years of hands-on experience as a Power BI developer.
Deep expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and Power BI Service administration.
Strong experience in data modeling and performance tuning of large-scale datasets.
Demonstrated experience in the insurance domain (policy, claims, risk, actuarial data, etc.).
Familiarity with data integration and ETL processes; experience with tools like Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or Informatica is a plus.
Strong knowledge of relational and dimensional data models.
Ability to work with stakeholders to define KPIs, data visualization goals, and user requirements.
Experience with Power BI governance, security, and workspace management.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or similar certification.
Experience with Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or other cloud data platforms.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and Jira or similar tools.
Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics is a plus.
Experience with Power Platform tools like Power Apps and Power Automate is an advantage.
Work Environment This is a 100% onsite role based in Chicago, IL. Must be comfortable engaging with cross-functional teams and business leaders.
