GENERAL SUMMARY The position is responsible for investigating and resolving issues that arise during the test entry portion (pre-analytical phase) of processing specimens. Issues are received, tracked and addressed immediately so that processing of specimens with issues can occur in a timely manner. Responsibilities
LABORATORY RESPONSIBILITIES Investigating/resolving pre-analytical specimen issues identified by Laboratory Specimen Processors or Lab staff. Document and ensure all information is properly routed to Specimen Resolution Office Staff. Inventory control of all specimens placed on Hold Testing. Ensure that each issue identified is handled/resolved in accordance with the current SOP. Process all finalized resolutions received from Specimen Resolution Office Staff in a timely manner. Ensure all specimens that receive final resolution are accessioned, aliquoted and prepared for testing through appropriate channels (i.e., Hamilton and Olympus). Other duties as assigned. General Responsibilities Remain aware of evolving business needs and opportunities, showing flexibility in doing whatever is appropriate to support the company’s success. Pursue educational opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge of HIPAA, safety, SOP and related issues. Coordinate efforts between other departments; demonstrate good judgment to resolve specimen issues. Prioritize workload and exhibit urgency when approaching deadlines. Engage cross-department collaboration to achieve department and company goals. Establish strong organizational skills to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with teamwork, integrity and accountability. Develop working partnerships with upper management and cross-department teams. Performs all other related duties as required. Education
Associate degree preferred; combination of education and experience may be substituted. High School Diploma or GED minimum requirement. Experience
Previous experience working in a laboratory is required. Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills. Strong attention to detail. Strong problem solving capabilities. Time management and ability to multi-task. Experience in SOP or Policy adherence to meet business needs and regulatory requirements. Strong email communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Ability to stand for long periods in a laboratory setting (4–8+ hours). Ability to handle multiple shifting priorities without impacting specimen processing. Proficient in MS Office; able to learn company laboratory information system quickly. Commitment to HIPAA, confidentiality and compliance. Maintain administrative, physical and cyber security controls. Physical & Mental Requirements
Sitting (40%), walking (20%), standing (40%), lifting up to 20 lbs. Reading and understanding SOPs; converting SOP instructions into tasks. Perform simple calculations as required in SOPs; use judgment for deviations and communicate discrepancies to the supervisor. The role is in a fast-paced environment and requires the ability to thrive under moderate stress; extended schedules may be required. Due to occupational exposure to saliva/oral swab specimens, there is a low risk of exposure to tuberculosis. Millennium Health’s Tuberculosis Exposure Plan allows screening for tuberculosis at no charge. Potential Hiring Range
