Overview

Senior Computational Biologist/ ML Scientist Company:

Kernal Bio — based in Cambridge, MA — engineers human cells using selective mRNA-LNP technology to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases. Our AI-designed mRNAs, delivered via antibody-decorated lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), target biological pathways precisely and minimize off-target effects. Programs KR-402 (hematological malignancies and autoimmune disorders) and KR-335 (solid tumors resistant to standard immunotherapies) demonstrate high delivery efficiency and favorable preclinical profiles. With roots at MIT, Harvard, Merck, and BMS, Kernal Bio advances mRNA therapeutics by leveraging AI to enable precision delivery within the body. Job Summary

Senior Computational Biologist/ ML Scientist We are seeking a Senior Computational Biologist to join our R&D team and lead drug discovery efforts. This role involves moving beyond routine data analysis to creatively apply advanced computational methods to solve complex biological challenges, directly impacting our pipeline and scientific strategy. The Role

As a core member of our research group, you will extract meaningful insights from diverse datasets and apply sophisticated data science and machine learning techniques to biological questions. You will collaborate with wet lab scientists, synthetic biology, and formulation teams, acting as a bridge between data and discovery. Key responsibilities Data Analysis & Modeling: Design and execute rigorous statistical and computational analyses by integrating and analyzing diverse omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, single-cell sequencing). Develop, train, and deploy AI/ML models to predict biological outcomes and accelerate drug discovery. High-Performance Computing: Manage and scale computational workloads using cloud platforms and NVIDIA GPU-accelerated computing for data processing and model training. Scientific Communication: Prepare scientific manuscripts, contribute to intellectual property filings, and present findings at scientific conferences and internal meetings. Documentation & Workflow: Document computational workflows, results, and analyses in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) such as Benchling; maintain version control and facilitate collaborative code development (GitHub). Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior team members in computational analysis and scientific inquiry. Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented scientist with a proven track record. Requirements include: Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field; minimum of 3 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience. Deep expertise in the analysis of high-throughput biological data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, single-cell sequencing). Experience applying machine learning and AI; solid understanding of algorithms (e.g., gradient descent, Bayesian optimization, heuristic search). Proficiency with large language models (LLMs) is a plus. Hands-on experience with NVIDIA GPU-accelerated computing; familiarity with CUDA, cuDNN, or NVIDIA Clara for bioinformatics is valued. Programming: Fluency in Python; experience with workflow management and version control (Git/GitHub). Cloud computing: Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Intellectual curiosity, collaborative spirit, and strong communication and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple projects in cross-functional teams. Benefits
