Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson invites applications for the position of Chief, Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine, and Director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center. This is an exceptional opportunity for a transformative leader to help grow our presence and impact in Southern Arizona and beyond; promote patient care through state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics; expand an already strong cohort of faculty, fellows, students, and staff; augment and expand basic and translational research and clinical trial activities; and further strengthen the tripartite mission of the College.
The College of Medicine provides state-of-the-art programs in medical education, groundbreaking research opportunities, and leading-edge patient care. From an initial class of just 32 students in 1967, the College today has graduated more than 4,000 physicians. With 6 core faculty, the Division of Rheumatology is a comprehensive academic clinical division with established community partnerships in a wide variety of areas, and a track record of research excellence driven by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center. Building on an established partnership with Banner Health, the fourth largest non-profit healthcare system in the U.S., the Division is well-positioned to expand its range of clinical services to include general rheumatology, Lupus clinics, Fragility Clinics, Rheumatology-Dermatology Clinics, Rheumatology-Interstitial Lung Disease Clinics, Rheumatology-Glomerular Diseases Clinics, and Inflammatory Arthritis-Cardiology Clinics.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine as Director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center and to the Chair of the Department of Medicine as Division Chief of Rheumatology, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the leaders of the College and Banner - University Medicine to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellence in clinical care, education, and individual and team-based research. This individual will be a visionary, accomplished leader with demonstrated achievements in rheumatology research and clinical operations and will be comfortable setting ambitious goals and strategies. Furthermore, this individual is expected to be actively involved in significant philanthropic and outreach activities, the cornerstones of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center; to practice transparent, collaborative leadership; and to create a culture of mentorship, scholarship and innovation that includes effective partnerships with community agencies, health-related organizations, and governmental entities, with a focus on faculty recruitment and retention efforts that support department objectives.
The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson is committed to promoting and supporting research, clinical, and educational missions that meet the needs of our students, faculty, staff, and the community we serve. We believe that our students, faculty, and staff serve as role models, broaden perspectives, and enhance our ability to advance the health of our community. Through strong collaboration with both internal and external partners, we ensure that our staff, trainees and faculty are fully equipped to address community challenges and needs, delivering exceptional care across Arizona and beyond.
