Early Career Fire and Life Safety Engineer - Buildings
(Full-Time). Offices: Arlington, VA; Boston, MA; Columbia, MD; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Nashville, TN; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY. Responsibilities
Take part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector. Assist with research, design, concept development, installation, operation, maintenance, and integration of automatic sprinkler, fire alarm, mass notification systems, smoke control, egress analysis, and building and fire code analysis review and compliance. Generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project and ensure responsibilities are delivered to industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Perform basic professional fire and life safety engineering work related to site conditions, equipment, resources, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits. Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies for proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems. Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues related to sprinkler design, fire alarm and mass notification systems, smoke control, egress analysis, commissioning, and code review. Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures including data collection, documentation, surveys, and construction activities. Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline. 0 to 1 year of relevant post‑education experience. Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset. Familiarity with design/build concepts and relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with engineering and non‑engineering audiences. Attention to detail, ability to multi‑task, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently under general supervision or as part of a team. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools. Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAM) and experience with REVIT is a plus. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as required. Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification. Prior internship related to the degree and discipline. Active participation in local professional practice organizations. Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD; experience in fire protection design applications. Compensation and Benefits

$58,200 – $96,030
