Overview

Reporting to the Senior Director of Impact Giving, the Impact Giving Officer is critical to growing the number of qualified prospects and donors who can support Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT) at the major gifts level. This candidate will focus on identifying and qualifying alumni, parents and friends who have the potential to make high-level leadership gifts, multi-year leadership commitments, and major gifts of $100,000 and above. This individual will solicit major, planned and leadership annual gifts. Primary performance goals include the number of prospect qualifications, major gift solicitations and new gifts and commitments. This candidate must be technologically savvy and understand how to leverage their resources to reach all donors and engage the community in Stevens' development efforts. This position will be based in Hoboken, New Jersey, at the main campus of Stevens Institute of Technology, with a flexible work arrangement as set by the Division of University Advancement.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: identify, initiate contacts with, and qualify potential major donors; develop cultivation strategies for them (including volunteer involvement); move potential donors toward solicitation and closure; make solicitations when appropriate; maintain stewardship contacts with donors.

Build and expand a major gifts portfolio by identifying and qualifying new prospects capable of making major gift contributions; develop strong working relationships with undergraduate and graduate alumni, parents and friends to identify prospects with capacity and inclination to support Stevens.

Guide and support academic and administrative leaders in the donor engagement process; educate them on funding goals and priorities; ensure their time is productive and rewarding.

Ensure stewardship of donors conveys appreciation and demonstrates the impact of contributions on the institution.

Understand Stevens’ research initiatives, the president’s vision, and faculty priorities; identify stories that elevate funding priorities and communicate them clearly to internal and external audiences.

Partner with the Senior Director of Planned Giving on complex and blended gift opportunities; advise prospects on deferred giving vehicles.

Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues in University Advancement; leverage collaboration to identify new donors and engage alumni in Stevens’ life.

Maintain consistent contact with prospects and travel as needed to meet them, alone or with SIT representatives.

Enhance prospects’ interest through substantive campus visits and engagement opportunities (alumni events, exposure to academic and research initiatives, meetings with faculty, students and senior leaders).

Qualifications And Experience

A minimum of four years of experience in philanthropic fundraising, preferably in higher education; demonstrated ability to design and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for five- and six-figure+ gifts.

A highly motivated, goal-oriented self-starter who uses innovative approaches to engage prospects and promote the institution’s mission.

Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with faculty, leadership, staff, donors, alumni and board members; comfortable working with science, technology and engineering professionals.

Exceptional communication skills to translate academic, technical and research information for diverse audiences; clear and persuasive written and oral communication.

Strong listening, influencing and relationship-building abilities.

Keen understanding of how university advancement areas work together to engage prospects and optimize lifelong giving.

Ability to analyze information, think strategically and work toward measurable objectives; flexibility in a changing environment.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while adhering to annual and long-term goals.

Desire to be part of a collaborative team advancing an institutional mission and strategic plan.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Willingness to travel up to 25% of time and to work nights and weekends as needed; valid driver’s license required.

Department Major Gifts

Compensation In compliance with applicable laws, the annual base salary range is $98,000.00 - $133,933.33. This range reflects a good faith estimate at posting time and may vary based on scope, experience, skills, and internal equity. The final salary will consider departmental budget, qualifications, and credentials. This pay range includes base pay only and excludes incentives or other compensation components.
