Join Gradient as a Senior Systems Sales Engineer. Gradient aims to revolutionize home comfort while championing environmental sustainability and decarbonizing buildings through high-efficiency, low-carbon heating solutions.
The Senior Systems Sales Engineer will manage all stages of multifamily building retrofit projects—from initial site assessment and energy modeling to developing retrofit strategies and presenting technical proposals to clients. The role requires strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, and building controls, with collaboration across internal and external teams to ensure successful project delivery and continuous improvement. This role is onsite with clients in the Northeastern United States.
Salary: The estimated salary for this role is $148,000 to $155,000 USD per year plus equity. Compensation varies by geography, skills, education, experience, and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Lead energy retrofit assessments for multifamily projects, evaluating mechanical and electrical needs and identifying electrification opportunities.
Develop retrofit strategies aligned with client financial and operational goals and constraints.
Support energy modeling efforts to evaluate scenarios, project savings, and validate system sizing.
Provide optimized proposals and quotes that clearly articulate costs, energy savings, and ROI.
Assess electrical readiness and recommend upgrades to support electrification retrofits when necessary.
Collaborate with clients, building operators, architects, and engineers to guide them through the retrofit process.
Support implementation and installation, conducting field inspections to ensure technical compliance and quality.
Apply advanced HVAC controls and review strategies for system optimization and integration.
Deliver technical presentations to customers, utilities, and internal stakeholders.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to internal engineering and sales teams on HVAC and electrification best practices.
Collaborate with Product, Hardware, and Software Engineering teams to ensure successful integration of solutions; partner with Customer Experience for strong client support.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying recurring challenges and proposing process improvements and better onboarding procedures.
Qualifications
7–10+ years of experience in HVAC design or building systems engineering.
Deep expertise in multifamily or commercial building electrification and energy efficiency retrofits.
Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and building electrification trends.
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems interactions.
Experience conducting or reviewing building energy models.
Exceptional client-facing communication and presentation skills.
PE license or CEM certification is a plus.
