Overview

Senior X-Ray Technologist General at Westchester Medical Center Health Network. Under general supervision, responsible for operation of x-ray equipment to take radiographs of various body parts to assist physicians in diagnosis. This role involves patient positioning, image development, equipment maintenance, and maintaining radiographic files. Senior level is distinguished from X-Ray Technician by the expectation of working with little supervision and potentially being assigned to times or locations without direct supervision. May exercise partial supervision over x-ray technicians, non-professional staff, and clerical support staff in quality control and providing technical assistance. Responsibilities

Position patients and prepare them for x-rays; adjust equipment settings (voltage, current, exposure time) as prescribed by the attending physician. Take x-rays as prescribed for diagnostic purposes; develop or review film development. Prepare and maintain radiographs records and files; purge outdated files as directed. Troubleshoot and maintain x-ray equipment; requisition films and supplies as needed. Mail x-ray films to organizations and physicians as requested. Provide training and technical direction to lower-level technicians and non-professional staff; may supervise staff as needed. May maintain and analyze system databases and develop systems to meet departmental needs. Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Health as a Radiologic Technologist in Diagnostic Radiography. One year of experience in a hospital x-ray department or private radiological service performing diagnostic work. Special Requirement: Must be certified by and maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. Special Note (Mammography): At time of appointment, must possess one of the following if assigned to mammography: (a) 40 hours of training in mammography; or (b) ARRT Advanced Certificate in Mammography; or (c) completion of a three-day Medical Technology Measurement Institute course in Mammography for Technologists.
