This leader must bring expertise in instructional practice/leadership, educator development, all aspects of school-site operations, and authentic community engagement. Specific Role Responsibilities Reporting to the Chief Schools Officer, the School Head of School is a comprehensive leader who must demonstrate leadership across multiple priorities, including: Instructional Leadership

Ensure that the Phoenix academic team is clear about how to implement, assess, and adapt the curriculum and lessons that map to priority academic standards for core content areas. Review data weekly with the leadership team and school staff to determine pivots needed to achieve academic goals. Lead a scholar-focused academic program that supports college completion and self-determination. Collaborate with the School’s leadership and instructional teams, and the Network-wide Instructional Leadership Team (NILT), to design and deliver professional development addressing identified gaps. Coordinate with the Network Collaborative Practices Team (CPT) to align academic work to centralized competencies, curriculum and assessments for consistency. Supervise the Special Education, English Language Development, Advisory, and Academic programs and services; support staff compliance and develop best practices. Communicate instructional goals and reinforce classroom standards. Foster a positive school culture with high expectations and respectful decision-making. Support through the advisory program for scholars developing independence. Lead community-wide rituals to share information, celebrate achievements, and apply Restorative Practices. Oversee the development of school-wide discipline practices and annual student handbook. Ensure compliance with policies and state law; maintain a joyful culture through celebrations and recognition. Develop staff capacity to foster positive relationships and healthy decision-making among scholars. Ensure coordinated student support services across teams; respond to staff professional needs with added development sessions. Collect ongoing feedback from staff to identify needs and develop action plans for supervision, direction, support, and recognition.

Student Recruitment, Retention, and Community Engagement

Oversee year-long student recruiting, onboarding, and enrollment targets. Apply relentless outreach to ensure engagement and attendance; monitor progress against goals. Oversee the primary person model (PPM) to assign each student a main staff member for progress monitoring. Lead retention activities with staff engagement and community partnerships to reach disconnected youth. Build and maintain partnerships to connect students to college and careers; ensure Phoenix is a visible community institution.

Operational Leadership

Manage the school budget and coordinate with the Operations leader on enrollment and staffing alignment with budget constraints. Monitor enrollment and adjust staffing/resources to meet budget and strategic plans. Maintain a clean, welcoming building and ensure it reflects student value. Ensure DESE regulations are met and delegated to appropriate staff, including data collection and disciplinary reporting. Ensure technology platforms are updated and accessible; coordinate with network talent on recommitment and recruitment practices. Oversee school-based hiring and participate in salary discussions when appropriate.

Supervision and Development of Leaders

Supervise and develop School Leadership Team; conduct weekly leadership meetings and implement leadership competencies. Coordinate weekly action plans for enrollment, attendance, culture, and academic achievement data. Support leaders in supervising and evaluating staff with ongoing feedback and growth goals. Collaborate on Staff Institute and annual Professional Development Plan.

Demonstrated success in developing leadership capacity in others. Ability to create inclusive environments that honor diverse backgrounds. Strong leadership, management, and culture-building skills with emphasis on teamwork and accountability. Excellent interpersonal and stress management skills. History of engaging with parents and community. Minimum of 3 years of school leadership/supervisory experience (AP, Principal, Dean, etc.) and demonstrated classroom leadership with results.
