Position Overview
The
Commercial Real Estate Accountant
will manage the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of 15–20 commercial properties. The role requires technical accounting expertise, strong organizational skills, and the ability to take ownership of deadlines and deliverables. This individual will also help improve efficiencies, mentor junior staff, and liaise with external accountants.
Key Responsibilities Manage all accounting functions for assigned portfolio (15–20 commercial properties).
Prepare and review
CAM reconciliations
and ensure accuracy of tenant billings.
Process and track
operating expense recoveries, management fees, penalties, and late fees.
Maintain accurate financial reporting in
Excel and QuickBooks.
Support external auditors and third-party accounting firms during tax filings.
Develop and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
Mentor/oversee 1–2 junior accounting staff.
Partner with property management and ownership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.
Proactively identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities to strengthen financial operations.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA track or CPA preferred).
Public accounting experience (audit, reviews, attestations)
strongly preferred.
Prior experience with
commercial real estate accounting
(office, retail, industrial).
Hands-on knowledge of
Excel and QuickBooks
required
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to “roll up sleeves.”
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines with precision.
Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with external accountants, auditors, and attorneys.
Leadership potential — ability to mentor junior staff and eventually lead a small team.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience
Bonus:
Discretionary, based on performance and company results.
Vacation:
2–4 weeks depending on experience and tenure.
