The Data Engineering team in Data Platform USDS focuses on stability, reliability, scalability and risk management of TikTok's US data processing ecosystem. We maintain and operate both batch and streaming pipelines for multiple vertical businesses such as TikTok and TikTok Shop while adhering to strict data compliance standards. We collaborate with internal teams to enable user experiences by delivering high quality at scale. As a data engineer in the data platform team, you will have the opportunity to build, optimize and grow one of the largest data platforms in the world that directly supports the TikTok app. You\'ll gain hands-on experience across systems in the data platform ecosystem, with work that directly impacts the company\'s core products and hundreds of millions of users. Our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. The hybrid model is reviewed regularly and requirements may change.
Responsibilities
Design, implement and maintain reliable, scalable, robust and extensible big data systems that support core products and business.
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines utilizing optimal ETL patterns and frameworks, sourcing from structured and unstructured data sources to ensure data is accessible and usable by the organization.
Extract data from sources such as APIs, HIVE tables and other data sources to process and store large volumes of data, ensuring data accuracy, consistency and security.
Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries and data flow diagrams, to support data management and analysis.
Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate easier development of data artifacts.
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data needs and present key data insights meaningfully.
Analyze and visualize data to provide business stakeholders with actionable insights.
Establish solid design and engineering practices for engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Statistics, Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
1+ years of experience in data analytics and data engineering, including data cleaning, preprocessing, ingestion, ETL, data analysis and dashboard development.
1+ years of experience building dashboards in Tableau, Power BI or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in distributed data processing using Spark/Scala, Python, Hadoop/HDFS/AWS/S3 and Kafka.
Proficiency in data modeling, data design, SQL and databases.
3+ years of experience with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, Metastore, Presto, Flume, Kafka, ClickHouse, Flink, etc.).
Strong background in algorithms and data structures.
Experience working with PII and GDPR data.
Effective communication with technical and non-technical partners.
Ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Curious, innovative, and collaborative approach to problem solving.

Job Information Compensation: The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $118,657 - $259,200 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and stock units. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance from day one, 401(k) with company match, paid parental leave, disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, and paid time off.
