Reporting to the Accounting Manager, Philanthropic Asset Services (PAS), the Assistant Accounting Manager will work in collaboration with other members of the team to ensure the proper and timely operations of the Donor Advised Fund Program (DAF), as well as other programs within PAS. The Assistant Accounting Manager will be solely responsible for reviewing journal entries and posting them to the general ledger, producing various reports, prepare year-end journal entries, assist during audit time, and manage the production of the DAF quarterly reports. This position will eventually have three direct reports. CJP is not able to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Essential Functions
Lead the day-to-day operations of the PAS team, ensuring deadlines are met including grant payments, additions, and disbursements/withdrawals. Ensure a timely month end close. Prepares year-end closing entries, including life insurance, annuities, charitable gift annuity, bequests receivable, and other trusts. Reviews all PAS activity in the general ledger. This includes monthly activity, monthly performance, and correcting entries. Performs reconciliation on all accounts and identifies errors. Prepares year-end closing entries, including life insurance, annuities, Charitable Gift Annuity, Bequests Receivable, and other Trusts. PAS Reports - Produces all reports, including but not limited to: Endowment Status Report, Assets Under Management, Four Square Report, JCEP inflow/outflow, Maintains schedules for contributions and disbursements for the DAF funds and reconcile to the general ledger monthly. Review and approve weekly contribution and disbursement wires that are dispersed into different investment funds. Oversees and manages the annual external audit process. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to prepare ad hoc reports as needed. Review and approve DAF Quarterly statement PDF files for accuracy prior to donor receipt. Serve as backup to all functions on the PAS team. Consistently work towards process improvements and best practices for accounting procedures and processes. Reviews and approves bank transfers initiated by the PAS team. Ensures the Wire Book is complete and that all wire requests have proper signature. When auditors send their selections, gathers all backup for said items. Prepares various schedules, guided by the Accounting Manager, as needed. Other
To ensure both continuity of work and a panoramic perspective on the different components of the program, the Assistant Accounting Manager will learn how to perform every task done by the team. Consistently work towards process improvements and best practices for accounting procedures and processes. Serve as a secondary reviewer and approve bank transfers initiated by the PAS team. Hybrid Work Schedule: CJP staff follow a hybrid work model. On-site work is required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while remote work is an option on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays with occasional in-person meetings on those days. Physical Requirements: This role involves remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods, primarily working at a computer. BA/BS degreein finance, accounting, or related field Experience
3-5 years of related general accounting experience Prior experience in supervisory or team lead roles is highly valued Nonprofit experience a plus Experience with Donor Advised Funds and Endowments a plus Skills/Competencies
Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong customer service orientation with the ability to be pleasant and tactful under all circumstances and maintain confidentiality Super-user of Microsoft Word, One Note and Excel, including the ability to determine which is the best software for the task Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Detail-oriented individual with high degree of accuracy while processing tasks efficiently, and ability to solve problems alone or with others Ability to follow procedures and maintain consistency, manage time, and meet deadlines Skills in interpersonal relations to ensure effective communication with a multi-cultural population. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changes and shifting priorities. Ability to supervise, mentor staff; delegate tasks and manage workload priorities.
