Position Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (PlayStation). Our software production organization seeks a senior-level software engineer for our Video Codecs team. This team is a trailblazer in video encoding/decoding technology. Efforts here will contribute to the development of system libraries used for both our current and next generation PlayStation products. You will contribute to the design and implementation of technology used for cloud gaming, remote play, game recording, video streaming and in-game video playback. The software you develop here is the foundation of an SDK for industry leading game and content developers and will change the way video games are played worldwide. Responsibilities:
Understand users’ requirements and assist with system software integration Contribute to the architecture design and development of encoder and decoder libraries Collaborate with international counterparts to realize design and development goals Work with vendors to evaluate and implement externally developed functionality Own multiple encoder or decoder components with a strong sense of ownership and accountability Qualifications
Excellent skills in diagnosing and resolving complex issues related to C and C++ code Experience with GPU and graphics programming, including languages such as HLSL, Vulkan, or CUDA Familiarity with image processing and video compression standards (e.g., MPEG, H.264/265) Proficient with these systems/tools: IDEs, Source Control (git/SVN), and Issue Tracking (Windows/Linux) Experience with one or more C/C++ compilers: LLVM/Clang, GCC, Visual Studio, ProDG Good communication and teamwork skills Strong grasp of code efficiency and performance optimization Committed to delivering clean, efficient, maintainable code Nice to have:
Hands-on experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch for model implementation and training Experience with data manipulation libraries, such as NumPy and Pandas Good understanding of ML models and techniques used for image/video data, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) Prior embedded system development Experienced in writing multi-threading and SIMD Understanding of concepts in video quality measurement metrics (PSNR, SSIM, VMAF, etc.) Results driven, highly organized, methodical and detail oriented Has worked with video system development Any exposure to gaming console and/or consumer electronics development Please refer to our Candidate Privacy Notice for more information about how we process your personal information, and your data protection rights. The base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and employee discounts for Sony products.
