As the Director of Enterprise Compliance, you will lead the charge in shaping BECU’s regulatory compliance strategy and execution. Your work will directly influence how we serve our members by ensuring the credit union operates with integrity, meets all compliance obligations, and stays ahead of regulatory expectations. You’ll empower and develop a high-performing compliance team while helping guide BECU through exciting growth and transformation. From setting policy to engaging with regulators and senior leaders, your leadership will be both highly visible and deeply impactful.

What You’ll Do

Lead Strategic Compliance Operations: Set and execute the strategic vision for BECU’s Compliance Management System (CMS) program, ensuring it meets all internal and regulatory expectations.

Manage a High-Impact Team: Guide and coach a 20-person team, including subordinate managers and compliance professionals, to support enterprise-wide compliance activities and key business initiatives.

Represent Compliance at the Highest Levels: Present reports and insights to senior leaders, the Executive Management Team, and the Audit Committee. Speak with authority and clarity on regulatory matters.

Ensure Regulatory Readiness: Collaborate with internal leaders and legal counsel to prepare for and respond to regulatory examinations and audits with accuracy and professionalism.

Drive Compliance Communication: Lead the development of reporting and communication plans that enhance enterprise awareness of compliance programs and objectives.

Operational Oversight & Risk Reporting: Direct risk reporting and manage CMS program updates. Review and approve compliance oversight findings and track remediation efforts across business units.

Support Strategic Planning: Partner with the Chief Compliance Officer on team budgeting, forecasting, and staffing to support scalable compliance operations.

Champion Team Growth: Create a culture of continuous learning, coaching, and performance excellence across the department. Lead skip-level check-ins and performance development initiatives.

Foster Collaborative Relationships: Establish trust and credibility across teams by understanding business goals and aligning compliance support to meet evolving needs.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, compliance, or related field (or equivalent education/experience)

Minimum 8 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of direct people leadership experience with a NCCO (National Certified Compliance Officer) certification and an in-depth understanding of Dodd-Frank, federal and state consumer protection laws, and financial regulations.

Desired Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred.

Experience working with financial institution regulators (federal or state)

Executive presence with ability to confidently deliver difficult messages

Program or project management and communication skills

Experience with crafting high-level reports for regulators and executive audiences

Pay and Benefits Base pay range: $151,400.00/yr - $280,900.00/yr

The Target Pay Range for this position is $194,400.00-$237,800.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $151,400.00 - $280,900.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; disability and AD&D; health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts; health savings accounts; 401k plan; and paid time off and holidays per year. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of PTO per pay period (up to 160 PTO hours per year) and ten paid holidays annually.

To join the dynamic team , candidates must be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. Washington state residents within commuting distance to Tukwila are asked to come into HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Remote work is available for those outside the commute distance in approved locations. Remote or onsite, you will be engaged in a collaborative environment.
