Overview
The Mammography Radiographer reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities
The Mammography Radiographer performs general mammography imaging procedures to generate imaging information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of inpatients and/or outpatients. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. Evaluate the request for procedures and assess the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application. Appropriately employ imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate mammography images. Care for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and the “patients' first” guidelines. Evaluate the resultant images in comparison with industry standards and take corrective action if needed. Perform preliminary interpretation by applying independent judgment, subsequently customizing the procedure accordingly. Use this knowledge to expedite intervention by the radiologist if necessary. Notify physicians as required of changes in the condition of the patients or regarding unique imaging characteristics. Assist the radiologist in the performance of interventional procedures. Prepare sterile trays including procedure-specific needs and other ancillary equipment. Complete and maintain the medical record consisting of film and associated paperwork. Provide patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient’s anxiety and enhance comfort with and tolerance of the procedure. Perform imaging procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices as determined by regulatory authorities to limit radiation exposure to patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team. Perform Quality Control testing as assigned in accordance with FDA/ACR recommendations. Notify supervisor to close function when results are outside control limits. Close rooms and/or processors as required in absence of supervisor. Additional Functions:
Document mammography imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to insure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking. Monitor stock of supplies in imaging rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reorder, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment. Report incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon as possible.
Qualifications
Required: Graduation from a hospital-based two-year training program in Radiologic Technology or Associate’s Degree Program in Radiology Technology IEMA licensed ARRT registered in Radiography (ARRT(R)) CPR - Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association Clinical and technical competency in Mammography to meet MQSA requirements ARRT registered in Radiography Mammography within 12 months of start date Preferred: Bachelor’s degree Three or more years of experience Equal Opportunity
