The Payroll Director assists the company in meeting its objectives and goals by overseeing and performing with effectiveness and accuracy the payroll life cycle for union and non-union employees. This includes understanding and compliance with established accounting principles, practices, and procedures, and regulatory compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and related federal and state laws. Essential duties and responsibilities

Oversee the full payroll life cycle and payroll team members, including input, processing, auditing, reporting of taxes, and payment distributions to all employees. Ensure payroll compliance with Federal and State laws, contractual obligations (e.g., prevailing tax). Maintain and update payroll records (exemptions, deductions, rates for union and non-union, union codes, job titles, addresses, department transfers, garnishments). Educate and train payroll team members and system end-users on time entry. Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, garnishments, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages, and other necessary reports. Ensure certified payroll compliance, reports, and pay treatment calculations. Calculate payroll liabilities, including employee and employer taxes and unemployment payments. Complete internal and external payroll audits and resolve discrepancies by analyzing documentation. Ensure payroll deductions are up to date and compliant with schedules and benefit plans. Verify employment within Federal and State law and company policy. Protect payroll information and maintain confidentiality. Provide payroll information by answering questions for employees and authorized agencies. Meet internal and external deadlines for payroll reporting and paycheck distribution for union and non-union personnel. Manage payroll-related accruals for company benefit plans and unions. Process high volumes of union and multi-state payrolls. Remain flexible to work overtime to meet deadlines. Ensure accounting compliance with accounting principles, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and other laws as required. A valid state driver’s license is required. Supervisory responsibilities

Preferred education and experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Five to ten years of related professional payroll experience; construction industry experience preferred. Knowledge in processing Union payroll preferred. General accounting fundamentals and concepts required. Strong understanding of related accounting practices and procedures. Advanced working knowledge of accounting systems software, specifically Vista/Viewpoint or similar. Computer skills

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and related applications. Proficient in Vista Viewpoint. Experience with remote-time entry software platforms preferred. Proficient in document management systems preferred but not required. Required attributes
