Overview
Industrial Hygienist - Subject Matter Expert I (SME I) will support the Center Occupational Safety, Health, Medical, System Safety and Mission Assurance Contract (COSMC) contract at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) in Mountain View, CA. The role provides technical leadership for chemical exposure monitoring, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, chemical hazard communication, confined space entry, gas detection, biohazards, lead, asbestos, mold, mercury, regulated carcinogens, compressed gases, indoor air quality, chemical hygiene (laboratory safety), hazard control ventilation, sanitation (food safety) inspections, nanomaterials, and other hygiene programs required to ensure employee safety and health in an industrial research environment. Experience applies to complex assignments.
Responsibilities
Execute the Industrial Hygiene SOW and Task Orders following the requirements, deliverables, and deadlines provided by the customer.
Develop annual budgets that include laboratory analysis, equipment calibration, and consumables.
Perform air sampling and noise sampling for both area and personal exposure assessments across ARC.
Write and review sampling plans for air sampling, as well as other special projects based on OSHA/NIOSH analytical methods.
Review and provide comments on construction permits along with attending weekly permit board meetings.
Provide design recommendations on new ventilation systems along with assessing current ventilation systems based on ACGIH recommendations on a quarterly, annual, or biennial basis.
Write and update standard operating procedures for the industrial hygiene team based on contract requirements.
Review chemical purchases and provide recommendations for hazard controls, PPE, and air sampling.
Perform annual audits of shops, labs, and offices to support OSHA VPP certification.
Deliver various Industrial Hygiene related trainings as well as present results/recommendations to supervisors and senior management.
Provide monthly metrics of deliverables to the customer.
Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
10+ years of technical, engineering or scientific experience.
5+ years of recent and related work experience including leading teams.
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Experience writing and reviewing technical reports that follow standard scientific methodology.
Desired qualifications
Master of Science in industrial hygiene, occupational health, science, engineering or a related field.
Experience with exposure modeling software (e.g., ART, IHMod, IHSkinPerm, SDM).
Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) by the State of CA (Cal OSHA).
Certified Lead Professional by the State of CA (CDPH).
Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Experience working as a government contractor or on government contracts.
Work location
Onsite with the option for 1-2 days per week hybrid based on workload.
Some travel may be required.
Background investigations All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check; some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.
Drug and alcohol screening All Bastion employees must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen; some contracts require participation in periodic random drug and alcohol screening programs.

Compensation and benefits Salary range: $135,000 - $165,000.
