Senior Professional, Project Accounting
role at
WSP in the U.S. This opportunity involves providing accounting and financial specialist support to one or more Project Managers and project teams. Responsibilities include developing project work breakdown structures, budgets, margin analysis, and creating funding in Oracle for larger or more complex projects. Tasks also include evaluating project charges, cost transfers, keeping project data in Oracle up-to-date, generating robust project accounting reporting for infrastructure/transportation/professional services projects, and advising on corrective strategies. This role collaborates with Billing and project managers on pre-billing, cost estimates, and invoicing, ensuring quality standards are met to support delivering future-ready client solutions.
Your Impact
For assigned projects, manage and analyze the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue, ensure accurate project P&L, and communicate financial performance to project/program management. Oversee lifecycle project accounting from creating project accounts in Oracle to tracking budgets, validating invoicing, project close-out, and reconciling payables/receivables to budgets. Perform detailed accounting tasks related to project contracts, billing events, and billing transaction exceptions for larger, multi-faceted projects. Partner with the Project Manager and team to establish and update project budgets, and provide accounting recommendations when contracts or budgets change. Generate project financial reports and visualizations, analyze data for accuracy, and escalate findings to Project or Finance Management as needed. Monitor revenue and unbilled balances to ensure proper revenue recognition. Authorize access to project accounts and ensure proper transfer of expenses in compliance with accounting guidelines. Maintain QA/QC standards for project financial records using Oracle, spreadsheets, and related software. Investigate variances and submit variance reports to management; apply accounting expertise to project resources, labor, and expenses. Verify contract and change order details for large or complex projects, interpret contract language and modifications, and ensure compliance with terms. Monitor indicators for problem projects and keep project managers informed of concerns. Ensure draft invoices align with contract requirements; obtain approvals and finalize invoices for submission to clients. Coordinate subcontract management, evaluate subcontractor invoices, and manage purchase orders and payments with Accounts Payable. Identify and record unpaid billings and follow up on delinquent accounts receivable or unbilled costs. Respond to client requests for detailed project information and approve project-related billings. Attend or coordinate project meetings to report on financial status and follow up on actions. Prepare government reports related to projects and compile information for audits and audits responses as required. Collaborate with cross-functional finance teams (Billing, A/P, A/R, Project Setup) on project work and ensure regulatory data integrity and retention. Mentor and/or train other project accountants or interns as needed, including QA/QC reviews of billing and budgets. Stay current on project accounting principles and practices; practice ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or closely-related discipline (or demonstrated proven equivalent experience). 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in accounting, project contracts, and change management. Proficient knowledge of project accounting principles and their application to project work-related issues. Ability to perform technical computations involving accounting principles and interpret contract stipulations. Ability to coordinate with stakeholders and understand contract requirements, scope, and schedule. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for accounting and non-accounting audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and lead junior team members with QA/QC adherence. Advanced proficiency with MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data sorting/filtering, VLOOKUP) and accounting software; strong technical writing. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge to data analysis and decisions. Ability to collaborate with subcontractors, consultants, and clients on receivables. Awareness of and adherence to WSP USA’s Project Delivery Handbook. Proven safety record and ability to comply with health, safety, and harassment policies. Occasional travel may be required; work hours may extend beyond a typical day. Location may impact travel expectations. Master’s degree is preferred but not required (preferred qualifications). Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree is preferred (but not required). Familiarity with Oracle is preferred but not required.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $74,200.00 - $129,800.00; Colorado: $74,200.00 - $121,770.00. WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation based on location, experience, and internal equity.
