Position Summary

The Chief Membership Officer (CMO) leads strategic direction, accountability, and supervision to departments to ensure a quality Girl Scout experience. This position provides leadership to the development and implementation of a unifying strategy that connects the Girl Scout value proposition to the recruitment and retention of girl and adult members, including but not limited to; acting as a project lead for strategic planning; collaborating with the board of directors; the creation, socialization, and optimization of a three-year strategic roadmap. The Chief Membership and Strategy Officer provides direct oversight and leadership to the membership recruitment, retention, volunteer support, and volunteer training staff teams. In addition, the Chief Membership and Strategy Officer partners with the CEO, COO, CFO and other members of the senior leadership team to effectively drive strategy execution, membership stabilization and growth, staff development and training, hiring and onboarding of key operational positions, and 1:1 executive leader coaching.

Responsibilities

Provides strategic leadership, supervision, administrative direction and coordination to the following functions: membership recruitment, membership retention, troop and volunteer support, first year leader support, volunteer training, and strategic planning.

Leads annual demographic analysis and ongoing accountability for membership potential, to direct and manage the various membership campaigns to achieve overall balanced opportunities for girls that reflect the demographics of the communities served within the council jurisdiction.

Provides strategies, implementation and oversight to council goal planning, which includes creating and assessing comprehensive membership plans that drive retention and recruitment, ensuring girl and adult membership growth.

Monitors metrics of success for all responsible functions with a level of frequency that will ensure the development and execution of annual strategic integrated plans and budgets to enhance the reputation of Girl Scouting and allow time for strategy adjustments.

Leads strategic conversations regarding membership recruitment and retention, council growth, volunteer experience, and long range tactical and business planning, and when necessary, with external stakeholders, such as community/service unit leadership and board members.

Provides support to the operational management of the council through strong collaborative relationships, an investment in staff training and development, and peer-to-peer leadership coaching.

Serves as a member of the senior leadership team to ensure the execution of the council’s vision and strategic plan. Monitors and is responsible for assigned department budgets and performance management.

Supports and retains top talent in membership and operational positions that drive council growth.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience with eight years of directly related work experience, and at least six years of leadership experience.

Proven history demonstrating high proficiency in the broad range of managerial functions for an organization of comparable size, including budget development, vision, collaboration, leadership, managing diversity, community relations and partnerships, planning, board engagement, strategic and tactical planning, sales, and program delivery.

Demonstrated ability to foster cross-departmental collaboration and build diverse and inclusive teams resulting in an impactful team culture internally and externally.

Proven record of managing others through strategic execution and goal achievement including at the C-Level.

Intermittent periods of continual sitting, standing or walking may be required.

Travel throughout council jurisdiction up to 20% of the time.

Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid operator license.
