This program is part of the DoD SkillBridge initiative, offering transitioning service members hands‑on experience in Equinix data center operations. Interns will support routine and semi‑routine tasks related to customer installations, infrastructure maintenance, and service delivery within the IBX data centers. Equinix Emerging Talent, Military Program provides service members with transition assistance to the civilian workforce. This program is exclusively for Military Spouse Fellows or Active‑duty U.S. military personnel transitioning out of the military to civilian workforce. Program Context

Training will be in a digital infrastructure environment supporting an initiative to link service members to employment opportunities. Ideal start dates are late February through March. Job Summary
Data Centers are Critical Facilities that support hospitals, laboratories, public safety centers, and other essential operations. In this role you will perform repairs, corrective maintenance, and routine installations of critical facility infrastructure, drawing on a background in Electrical/Electrician, HVAC, or skilled Mechanical trades. Responsibilities
Perform site inspections and supervise building and Data Center alarms
Conduct preventative maintenance or lead vendors on on‑site infrastructure
Undertake repairs and corrective maintenance
Maintain knowledge of critical infrastructure such as UPS, generators, BMS, chillers and life safety systems
Complete site logs and data gathering for basic permits, such as MOPs and scripts
Respond to on‑site incidents as needed
Complete routine work requests and circuit installations
Assist during critical maintenance activities
Collaborate within the department and provide recommendations for maintenance
Carry out basic infrastructure projects
Support 24/7 operations, with flexibility to work shifts, on‑call, and respond to emergencies
Qualifications
Must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in DoD Instruction 1322.29 and NAVADMIN 222/15. Required Technical associate degree, military‑technical school, or civilian technical trade school completion
Education level: Working on a bachelor’s degree or relevant experience with 1–4 years in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Comprehensive knowledge of critical infrastructure (UPS, generators, BMS, chillers, life safety systems)
Coursework in HVAC design or heat transfer and thermodynamics
Knowledge of HVAC testing and balancing methodologies
Knowledge of IT hardware and other data center operations functions
Good time management, ability to multi‑task and sustain focus on long tasks
Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly
Initiative, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, teamwork, creativity
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in evolving environments
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team work
Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels
