Overview
Position : Peer Specialist at Services for the UnderServed (S:US) Salary : Min USD $45,000.00/Yr.; Max USD $50,000.00/Yr. The Peer Specialist facilitates engagement with teams by forging strong connections with participants and families, undertaking outreach activities designed to promote community awareness of S:US services, encouraging help-seeking, and at times serving as a bridge between team members and participants when they experience ambivalence about treatment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Relationship Building: Developing authentic, meaningful relationships with individuals and families through empathy, listening and collaboration. Embracing Creative Narratives: Understand, share and discuss multiple frameworks for understanding life experiences such as psychosis, using language to listen and make space for recovery stories. Advocacy: Advocate with and for program participants in the broader community and within the team. Co-Creating Support and Wellness Tools: Collaborate with participants to clarify personal visions and develop wellness tools; support self-awareness, life skills, and connections to resources outside of the S:US team. Influencing Team Culture: Promote recovery-oriented language, support a youth-friendly approach, and foster a belief in human potential and diversity within the team. Team Communication: Maintain open and frequent communication with the team, report safety concerns as required, and keep notes on visits with program participants. Co-collaboration on reporting with the program participant is encouraged. Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE NYCPS Peer Certification or Provisional Certification required: Recovery Coach, Peer Specialist or Family Peer Advocate. Understanding of the community in which the team is based and awareness of available community resources. Demonstrate positive progress toward personal recovery. Good interpersonal communications skills; ability to empathize and work effectively with participants of mental health services. Must possess the ability/willingness to disclose their recovery story (where appropriate) for empowerment. Excellent judgment and ability to understand boundaries when working with participants. Adhere to on-call cell phone system to facilitate crisis intervention, emergencies and immediate action. Significant travel to visit clients in their home and other settings is required; 50%. Preferred Qualifications & Skills Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Company Overview
