Founding CTO
for a VC-backed startup based in New York. The company operates in the aerospace sector and is building systems where performance, accuracy, and reliability matter. They are looking for someone from a startup background who has built and shipped production-grade GenAI systems. This person will own the technical strategy and lead execution from day 1, including building the early team & defining the architecture. TL;DR – Founding CTO (NYC, On-site)
Build and scale GenAI systems from the ground up
Own and improve RAG performance
Lead technical strategy, infrastructure, and early hiring
Must have AI-1st startup experience a track record of shipping real GenAI products
$300,000 base salary plus equity
What You Will Do
Define & lead the technical strategy across the GenAI stack
Oversee improvements to RAG accuracy, performance & reliability
Build & manage a high-performing engineering team
Make key decisions on architecture, tooling, and infrastructure
Work closely with the founders to align product & technical direction
Own delivery from roadmap through to execution
Establish engineering culture, processes & standards
What You Bring
Experience deploying LLM-based systems in production environments
Strong understanding of RAG, retrieval, ranking, evaluation, and monitoring
Proficiency with Python, PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, vector databases
Background in system design and scaling under performance constraints
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver in fast-paced environments
Computer Science degree & above or equivalent, preferably from a top-tier institution
Startup 0-1 experience is essential
Nice to Have
Exposure to aerospace, robotics, or hardware-related systems
Experience hiring and managing early technical teams
Built systems used in regulated or mission-critical environments
Familiarity with technical due diligence or early-stage fundraising
Offer
$300,000 base salary plus meaningful equity
On-site in New York City
Founding role with full ownership over technology and execution
Small, high-output team with direct access to decision-makers
