CNA Insurance is seeking a Senior Claims Counsel to join our Professional Services team focused on complex, high severity Architects & Engineers claims. This role collaborates with internal and industry partners on claim trends and issues, supports business growth, and mentors junior team members including analysis and strategy on complex files. This role may also include handling of complex, high severity matters for Lawyers and Accountants professional liability within the same management structure. A minimum of twelve years of relevant experience is preferred, with prior experience in A&E claims. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Handles complex, high severity professional liability Architects & Engineers claims requiring legal analysis of liability, damages and coverage issues. Drafts coverage letters, memoranda and reports. Represents CNA in settlement negotiations with independent authority to commit CNA. Interacts with insureds, brokers, claimants, and counsel. Directs and manages coverage counsel and coverage litigation against CNA. Partners with underwriters, product and actuary to respond to policy wording and claim related inquiries. Collaborates with industry partners, brokers and customers to address issues. Meets with industry partners, brokers and existing or prospective clients as part of business marketing, growth and retention strategies. Works with senior claim, underwriting and product leadership to develop and analyze new products and to identify, evaluate and track claim trends and issues. Provides technical guidance and oversight to junior staff. Develops and presents training seminars on key legal and industry issues/trends for the Professional Services teams and key industry and broker partners as requested. Represents CNA on panels at industry conferences. Reporting Relationship

Typically AVP and above. Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

Senior level advanced knowledge of theories, principles, practices and procedures of litigation management within an insurance organization. High level of technical and product specific expertise, claims resolution skill and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment and to handle confidential and sensitive information. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to manage ambiguous situations and issues. Proven ability to take a proactive long-term view of business goals to achieve strategic results. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software. Commitment to collaboration and ability to value diverse opinions and ideas. Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree with JD and admission to the bar of at least one state. Typically a minimum of twelve years of claims and/or legal experience with a proven track record of results. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable. Professional designations (e.g., CPCU) are a plus. Compensation and Location

In Illinois/New York/California, the average base pay range for a Senior Claims Counsel is $167,000 to $237,500. Salary determinations are based on factors including relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
