Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory testing in an accurate and timely fashion by utilizing technical and problem-solving skills in conjunction with a thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory principles. Maintains effective communications and transfers testing and pending follow-ups between employees and shifts following all CHAMP and HRO standards. Maintains all Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards at all times. Maintains operational effectiveness and assumes full responsibility for continuing education requirements, licensure, and expertise to adapt as needed to an expanding department with increased testing complexity. Responsibilities

Understands and adheres to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.

Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.

Demonstrates technical competency by performing a wide variety of laboratory techniques, including moderate to highly complex tests.

Operates instrumentation and/or assigned benches independently with sufficient knowledge and skills.

Operates department equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.

Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots instrument failures.

Performs tasks that assist with overall operation of laboratory service according to laboratory policies and regulatory guidelines.

May assist with training new employees.

Assists with specimen processing as needed.

Assists with inventory management/control.

Meets continuing education requirements.

Participates in professionalism, competency, and career growth activities.

Performs a variety of routine tests and procedures, instrument maintenance procedures, and routine quality control procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned to assure efficient operations of department, including covering other lab sections.

Qualifications Education

BS Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or equivalent; ASCP eligible or equivalent

Experience

0-2 years

Licensure

ASCP eligible

Special Skills

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Basic computer skills.

Maintains procedure knowledge and implements all new and revised procedures in real time.

Maintains all Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards at all times.

Physical Demands

Regularly sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Color vision testing may be required; accommodations available as determined on a case by case basis.
