Overview
Associate Program Director (APD) for Livermore Computing Systems and Environments and Computing Dep role at Physics World. The selected candidate will also have a complementary role as the Deputy Principal Associate Director for High Performance Computing in the Computing directorate. Responsibilities
Establish and manage a clear framework for accomplishing WSC goals in providing efficient and sufficient access to HPC resources in classified and unclassified environments; Provide strategic vision and leadership that ensures LC continues to meet programmatic objectives now and in the future; Work closely with senior HPC stakeholders across the Strategic Deterrence (SD) program; Develop and manage an annual budget of $80M-$120M ASC and $12-15M M⁣ Partner with the WSC AD and designated M&IC leader to ensure investments align with LC directions and deliver required services to the institution; Oversee a multidisciplinary staff of computer scientists, engineers, and technicians through technical area leads and managers for SD and M⁣ Engage with the institution to ensure LC supports the vitality of HPC across LLNL; Interact with DOE program managers in ASC and with sponsor organizations internal and external to LLNL; Collaborate with the Computing Directorate leadership team on ISCP portfolio management and provide advisement to senior leaders; Ensure compliance with Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Safeguards and Security Management, ES&H regulations, and sound business practices; Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
An active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance at the time of hire; Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience; Highly advanced leadership, strategic planning, fiscal management, and project/program management skills; ability to negotiate with high-level management and executives; Extensive experience and expert technical knowledge of High Performance Computing, including computational science, computer science, and simulation technologies; Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities; ability to independently advise and develop solutions for complex issues; Extensive experience leading HPC projects or programs with high impact and high consequence of error; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying technical content to expert and non-expert audiences; Ability to define and set clear goals and manage conflicting priorities and deadlines. Advanced degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience; Advanced understanding of DOE/NNSA R&D programs and strategic objectives; An active SCI clearance. Additional Information
