Overview

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, District of Columbia, or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Approved residencies include: (1) ACGME; (2) AOA; or (3) other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) but must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners and must have a restricted scope of practice under supervision Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: board-certified Gastroenterology physician with advanced clinical experience and demonstrated administrative and leadership skills Physical Requirements: able to perform all activities of the position without restriction; may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; may involve stairs Reference: For more information on qualification standards, visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/ Duties

OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT; All qualified applicants will be referred to the hiring manager on a weekly basis Located at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) – Chief of Staff - Medicine Service Serve as the Section Chief for Gastroenterology Section Ensure quality and timeliness of services, customer satisfaction, and compliance with accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program) Ensure appropriate use of resources and uphold state-of-the-art standards of care; collaborate with other services as appropriate Provide expert consultation and treatment to inpatients and outpatients in GI clinics, GI procedures, and inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care services Provide feedback and patient education to patients and families; demonstrate excellence in patient care and compliance Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for all GI patients Provide consultative evaluations for other services (general medical wards, surgical wards, emergency department) and perform administrative tasks as assigned Deliver compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care; adhere to policies and document clinical notes timely (consult H&Ps, clinic notes, procedure notes) Coordinate and communicate treatment plans with inpatient and outpatient providers requesting GI consults Administrative Duties: ensure operations and compliance with VHA guidelines for Gastroenterology Section; manage schedules and call coverage; hold monthly section meetings; allocate resources for clinical programs, testing, and consultation coverage; assess program adequacy and drive quality improvement Attend required staff meetings and communicate up and down the chain of command; prepare briefs related to adverse patient outcomes; perform other duties as assigned Total Rewards: competitive salary, annual bonus, paid time off, retirement options, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, malpractice protection, and work schedule Incentives and Contact
