Description Full-Time Hybrid Position in Oakland, CA (preferred), or Washington, DC with the requirement to report to the office at least two days per week plus other days as needed for program requirements. We ARE NOT considering remote staff for this position. This position is funded through June 30, 2026 with the possibility of continued employment contingent upon funding and project needs.
Who You Are The Senior Research Analyst (Sr. RA/RA-III) supports the Research & Action Center (RAC) across multiple projects and tasks, and is responsible for a significant portion of project management for their assigned projects. They lead ongoing operations such as data collection, data management, and internal communication. In addition to serving as a point person for project partners, they collaborate with a Senior Researcher to analyze and review data, synthesize findings, and write literature reviews, reports, infographics, fact sheets, and other content to further the work of the RAC. The incumbent demonstrates the highest level of proficiency, expertise, and independence in the following functions and duties.
What You Will Do The anticipated start date for this position is September 22, 2025. You will report to a Senior Researcher or Associate Director and your core responsibilities will be:
Leads General Research Activities
Design final drafts of data collection tools, questionnaires and interview protocols; facilitate and manage data collection; quality assurance; physical and electronic filing of project materials; assist other IJ departments with data/research-related projects and tasks; may serve as research consultants for Innovation projects as appropriate; contribute to team “idea bank”; draft and compile documents for IRB submission
Data Management and Analysis
Oversee data cleaning (and/or verify the accuracy of data cleaning) and analyses. Complete appropriate statistical testing (e.g. descriptive and inferential statistics) to identify trends and relationships, complete coding and thematic analysis of qualitative data, and draft summary findings. Analyze and summarize descriptive and bivariate statistics; conduct, interpret, and summarize significance tests; transcribe qualitative data; identify themes and code qualitative data
Project Organization and Management
Contribute to management and oversight of RAC projects and ensure that the team meets internal and external deadlines by organizing project content and documenting progress
Report and Grant Writing
Compile literature reviews and synthesize information efficiently; identify relevant organizations and sources for ongoing or upcoming projects; compile supporting graphics, charts, tables, etc.; write report-associated posts for the Impact Justice website; draft grant proposals; edit final drafts of materials
Education / Experience Education / Experience Level
Successful candidates typically have:
4 years of professional training/experience and/or closely-related experience
At least 3-5 years of experience performing the duties and tasks outlined above
Demonstrated success in roles of increasing skills, ability, and independence
Required Qualifications
Expertise in multiple forms of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
Can independently produce efficient and thorough literature reviews
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent personal time management skills - ability to manage and prioritize many tasks across multiple projects
Extreme reliability and ability to maintain confidentiality
Positive, solutions-oriented approach to problems
Expertise in using G-suite/Microsoft Office
High-level expertise in Excel
Expertise in one or more areas of the criminal/juvenile legal systems
Expertise in SPSS, R, or other statistical software
Able to independently interpret statistical output and summarize both quantitative and qualitative findings
Highly skilled in presenting data and findings visually, through charts, graphs, etc.
Able to work independently
Commitment to employing an intersectional lens during all tasks and projects
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of criminal justice, juvenile justice, school discipline, or foster care reform
Bilingual: English and Spanish
Applying The compensation range for the Senior Research Analyst position is $80,534 - $88,587. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, our starting salaries are established to represent strong compensation in the marketplace and to maintain internal equity. The starting salary for this position is $80,534, with annual increases defined by the collective bargaining agreement. This is a bargaining unit position with Impact Justice United represented by OPEIU International.
