The CRNA will employ multiple modalities, including regional anesthesia, MAC sedation and general anesthesia, in the operating room to provide analgesia or anesthesia during surgical procedures. The CRNA scope of practice is defined by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the North Carolina Practice Act. Providers are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
The CRNA will work with an exceptional team who support full scope nurse anesthesia practice. The work includes a mix of cases such as general, orthopedics, urology, plastics, GYN, podiatry, dental, ENT, ophthalmology. Out-of-department procedures include endoscopy, cardioversions/TEE, and IR. There are no hearts or lungs. CRNAs function independently to provide labor epidurals on a designated labor and delivery tract.
Responsibilities
Performs pre-anesthetic evaluations on patients using established guidelines and administers appropriate pre-operative medications. Consults with physicians as appropriate. Addresses any patient/family questions or concerns.
Verifies patient identity and correct procedure(s). Checks physical status for anesthesia/analgesia and follows through as warranted.
Ensures anesthesia machine, breathing circuits, monitoring equipment, suction devices, and all other equipment are fully operational before scheduled procedures. Ensures backup and emergency drugs are available on the anesthesia cart, including necessary equipment for administration.
Establishes and secures intravenous/intra-arterial lines, and applies monitors based on patient needs and procedural requirements.
Induces and maintains inhalation, intravenous, local, regional, and topical anesthesia, continually monitoring drug effects and adjusting dosage to maintain optimal physiological function and patient safety.
Education Requirements
Masters in nursing and certificate graduate of an approved Nurse Anesthetist program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Certifications/Recertifications by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
RN licensure.
ACLS Certification.
PALS Certification.
BCLS Certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
CRNAs with required education and credentials are eligible to apply.
