Singular Genomics
Overview
Singular Genomics is inventing at the forefront of genomics, one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. The G4 Sequencing Platform is a powerful benchtop genomic sequencer designed to produce fast and accurate results. The company is developing the G4X Spatial Sequencer, an upgrade to the G4, for in situ readout of transcriptomics, proteomics and fluorescent H&E in tissue with spatial context. Singular Genomics’ mission is to empower researchers and clinicians to advance science and medicine. We foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence, celebrate diversity, emphasize collaboration, and constantly seek ways to do better for our people. Our Headquarters are located in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.
Position
Staff Electrical Engineer
– you will work with peers in science and engineering to architect, design and develop electrical controls, power distribution and power management for sophisticated scientific instrumentation. This role suits a self-motivated candidate who thrives in a startup environment with frequent and diverse challenges.
Responsibilities
Work closely with R&D team members with expertise in organic chemistry, surface chemistry, biochemistry, enzyme engineering, physics, micro-fluidics, optics, signal processing and engineering. Translate high level design requirements into detailed requirements, specifications, circuit designs, electrical schematics, prototypes, PCBs and final products. Assemble, test, evaluate and iteratively improve prototype systems toward released products. Develop test plans, product and technical documentation. Directly support the R&D process, instrumentation and chemistry development.
Qualifications
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or comparable accredited technical degree and a minimum 5 years of experience in electronic systems design. Wide-ranging background in digital and analog electronics; board level and inter-board integration. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot system-level electrical issues (noise, stray capacitance, ground loops, impedance mismatch, etc.). Experience with optical, capacitive, inductive sensor technologies. Experience with analog and digital signal conditioning, filtering, and processing. Experience with AC/DC circuits, low power/low voltage power management and distribution, DC/DC regulation, and noise management at board/system level. Experience with schematic design and capture, PCB design, simulation, layout, diagnostics and troubleshooting. Competence with electrical laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems (DVMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power meters, etc.). Experience with high-precision motion control systems, sensors, encoders, servo systems, stepper motor systems, and thermal control systems. Understanding of H-bridge amplifier design for stepper motor applications. Developing and debugging communications between devices (RS-232/485, CANbus, USB, I2C, SPI, Ethernet). Experience with Altium or other comparable EDA tools; ability to see a project from schematic to fabrication. Strong cross-functional teamwork with excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with electrical design for biomedical instrumentation, fluidics, and optics. Familiarity with microcontroller architectures and the ability to write requirement specifications.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated base salary range for this role in the United States is $121,400 - $159,100. Compensation decisions depend on factors including qualifications, location, internal equity, and market data. Some roles may include eligibility for variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and equity as part of the compensation package.
