What You Will Do As a strategic legal leader, you will play a critical role in advancing the company’s growth and transformation in a highly regulated industry. This role provides strategic legal counsel and day-to-day support to key business units including Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, Tax, Finance, and Trade/Customs/Excise. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and cross-border legal issues, and will serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders across the enterprise.
Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial matters, including supply agreements, vendor contracts, logistics arrangements, and procurement initiatives.
Advise on legal issues related to domestic and international trade, tariff, customs, excise taxes, and import/export compliance.
Support Finance and Tax teams on legal aspects of financial transactions, tax structuring, and regulatory disclosures.
Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to identify and mitigate legal risks in manufacturing, distribution, and sourcing activities.
Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and ensure alignment with company policies and risk tolerance.
Monitor and interpret relevant laws and enforcement trends affecting the company’s operations, including customs, excise, and trade compliance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives, including cost optimization, ESG/sustainability efforts, and risk management.
Manage outside counsel relationships as needed for specialized matters or jurisdictional support.
Develop and deliver training to business partners on legal and compliance topics relevant to their functions.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house counsel roles.
Strong background in commercial law, supply chain, procurement, finance, and trade/customs matters.
Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., consumer goods, manufacturing, tobacco, or pharmaceuticals).
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Skills & Competencies
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
Work Environment
Ability to travel.
Requires light physical effort. Occasionally lifts or moves light objects (under 10 lbs.).
Walks, sits, or stands for prolonged periods.
Requires prolonged computer use and fine motor skills.
