Overview
Performance & Capacity Engineer - Planning Optimization is a full-time role with Meta. The position focuses on site-wide performance and capacity optimization at the intersection of all Meta products, services, and physical infrastructure (Servers, Data Centers, Network). Responsibilities include building and optimizing global and regional capacity plans to balance service, infrastructure, financial, and business constraints, managing investments at scale. The role involves developing software and mathematical optimization models, leveraging capacity/performance engineering and operations research/data science skills, and collaborating across engineering and business teams to support Meta’s growth.
Responsibilities
Own both technical and business outcomes for capacity planning for all Meta software products and services; plan how to scale server and data center resources efficiently. Build automated, scalable data and analytics solutions by developing state-of-the-art automation, mathematical optimization, and/or AI models using Meta’s data infrastructure. Use developed tools to influence executive decision making around infrastructure and product across various scenarios up to the CxO level. Collaborate with hardware, software, and operations teams (e.g., Production Engineering, Server Hardware Engineering, Server Supply Chain, Network Engineering, Data Center Design, Operations, Planning) to optimize scaling and resource placement. Partner with Finance to balance cost efficiency with technical and product considerations. Engage in Greenfield work: define problems, collect data, build analytical models, and drive strategic change and optimization. Identify capacity-related issues proactively and work across teams to define and implement solutions. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta. Minimum 4 years of experience working with distributed systems at scale. Proficiency in any coding language and software design. Desire to learn about capacity planning and optimization. Experience managing ambiguity and applying new business and technical concepts. Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Operations Research, or related technical field. Experience with mathematical optimization. Practical experience and demonstrated success in performance or capacity engineering. Experience with planning and analytics. Experience collaborating with diverse technical and non-technical teams. Direct experience in capacity planning for a major private or public cloud. About Meta

Base pay range: $117,000.00/yr – $173,000.00/yr plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location; compensation listed reflects base salary only. Location
