What You Will Do
Develop, deploy, and optimize AI/ML models to support CDC’s mission in public health.
Conduct advanced data wrangling, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling across large-scale public health datasets.
Apply natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, and data mining to improve surveillance of opioid use, firearm injuries, and other NCIPC priority areas.
Collaborate with epidemiologists, public health experts, and policy analysts to translate AI findings into actionable insights.
Support development and implementation of data processing pipelines (e.g., ETL) and visualizations to support real-time data analysis and reporting.
Support cloud-based analytics environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) for scalable AI solutions.
Author and present technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations for CDC stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with CDC data governance, privacy, and security protocols.
What You Will Need
Master’s degree is required
Minimum TWO (2) years of experience in data science, with demonstrated expertise in AI/ML applications for health or public sector programs.
Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, with hands-on experience using libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and NLP frameworks.
Experience with Palantir 1CDP
Demonstrated experience with big data tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms.
Strong background in statistical modeling, causal inference, and predictive analytics.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical findings to non-technical audiences.
Prior experience supporting CDC, NIH, or other federal public health agencies.
What Would Be Nice To Have
Familiarity with CDC NCIPC mission areas including injury prevention, opioid response, and firearm safety research.
Experience working with injury public health datasets (e.g., BRFSS, NVDRS, hospital discharge data, opioid surveillance systems).
Knowledge of federal health IT standards, data privacy (HIPAA, FISMA), and security frameworks.
Prior consultancy experience
