Collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team on core Starburst software for a SaaS and on-premise Data Platform. Utilize Starburst’s 50+ connectors that are critical to customer operations across a wide range of data sources. Find ways to speed up complex queries without sacrificing the correctness of results. Collaborate with team members and other teams globally in a fast-paced environment. Maintain a focus on coding and PR reviews with minimal time spent in formal meetings. Articulate ideas clearly in writing across Slack, GitHub PRs, and Design Documents in a globally distributed team. Provide exceptional customer support for internal and external customers. Uphold trust with customers by handling data with utmost seriousness and addressing reported problems. What we look for
Extensive software development experience with Java Experience with software engineering and design best practices Ability to create maintainable, performant, high-quality software as part of a high-performing globally distributed team Intrinsic motivation to improve software engineering craftsmanship Autonomy and ownership Curiosity to see what other engineering teams are doing and ability to connect the dots Ownership, grit, and bias for action Ability to Travel : Occasional in-person travel for onboarding, team and department offsites, customer engagements, and other company events. Travel expectations vary by role and business needs. Familiarity with using a Query Engine (Storage and Compute separation) Understanding the Data Engineer’s perspective for data lakehouse architectures Experience in Lakehouse Architecture Experience contributing to larger-scale Open-Source Software Ability to push forward and deliver functionality while ensuring correctness, quality, performance, and maintainability Location
This role is based in our Boston office and follows a hybrid model, with an expectation of being onsite 2-3 days per week. Compensation and benefits

The salary range provided for this role reflects the minimum and maximum targets for candidates across all U.S. locations and could include variable compensation.
