UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at the University of California, Irvine anticipates openings for physicians in general anesthesia and its various divisions. These openings will be at the level of Assistant Professor or above, depending upon the candidate's qualifications and will be in the Health Sciences Clinical Series (non-tenure track). Candidate must be board eligible or board certified. Candidate must be eligible for California licensure or licensed to practice in the state of California. Fellowship trained or equivalent experience preferred. Criteria for the Professor in the HS Series: Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series faculty engage in scholarly or creative activities which derive from and support their primary responsibilities in clinical teaching and professional and service activities. The divisions include Cardiac, Critical Care, Neonatal/Pediatrics, Neuro, Obstetrics, Pain Medicine, and Regional. The Health Sciences Clinical Professor will provide care at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA and Irvine, CA and/or affiliated sites in Orange County. Clinicians interested in pursuing an academic career in Anesthesiology and related specialties will be given the opportunity to grow in a dynamic department. There are ample opportunities for leadership roles, research, and career advancement. Our team includes a group of innovative, forward-thinking individuals with high standards of teaching, research, and patient care. Job duties include but are not limited to: Perioperative Management: including assessment, examination and optimization of the surgical patient. General Anesthesiology: inhalational anesthetics, intravenous anesthetics and use of muscle relaxants. Monitored Anesthesia Care Airway management: ventilation, laryngoscopy and intubation, laryngeal mask airway, fiberoptic laryngoscopy and intubation, bronchoscopy, cricothyroidotomy and other difficult airway techniques. Conduction/Regional Anesthesia: Epidural/Spinal/IV regional blocks, nerve blocks with or without catheter placement, epidural blocks, subarachnoid blocks using nerve stimulation or ultrasound. Placement and use of invasive hemodynamic monitoring including arterial/central venous cannulation and pulmonary artery catheter placement. Routine surface ultrasonography for line placement and surface diagnostics. Mechanical ventilation to maintain physiologic homeostasis. Obstetric Anesthesia: labor epidurals, cesarean section anesthesia, and neonatal resuscitation. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Supervision and care of patients in the post-anesthesia care unit. Management of acute pain in patients. Anesthetic management of common pediatric cases (ages 2 to 16). Pain Management: initial and longitudinal management, opioid management, blocks, injections, ablations, and related therapies. UCI Medical Center in Orange is a 459-bed acute care hospital, a Level I trauma center, and primary teaching site for the UCI School of Medicine. UCI Health is building a new hospital in 2025 and expanding facilities in Irvine to complement the flagship campus. UCI offers an excellent salary, incentive, and benefit program. Faculty rank and compensation are commensurate with experience. The Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series faculty typically have a 40-hour weekly clinical commitment including call responsibilities.
