Overview

Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Executive Director to lead and oversee the integration, performance, and development of our APC teams across specialties including Women\'s Health, Primary Care, Medical Specialties, and Surgical Specialties. The role collaborates with physician leaders and administrators across the care continuum (ambulatory and acute care) to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care and operational excellence. This position reports to the Sutter West Bay Medical Group Chief Executive Officer and operates in a dynamic environment where building structure, process, and culture are central to success.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development:

Directly supervise and mentor APC lead roles across Women\'s Health, Primary Care, Medical Specialty Services, and Surgical Specialty Services. Foster a collaborative leadership structure with APC leads, physician leaders, and administrators to drive clinical and operational initiatives.

Establish and lead operating and meeting rhythms for the APC workforce; chair regular forums for APC groups to convene.

Participate in SWBMG annual leadership goal setting and oversee the annual APC review process (progress reports).

Guide clinical orientation and development, including an APC residency program; lead ongoing professional development for APCs.

Establish and lead an APC leadership development program; support recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for APCs across specialties.

Participate as an invited member of the SWBMG Executive Leadership Team and Board.

Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance:

Ensure APCs adhere to clinical best practices, institutional policies, and regulatory standards. Conduct regular performance evaluations and case reviews to maintain high standards of care. Address and resolve clinical performance issues in partnership with HR and physician leadership.

Operational Management:

Oversee scheduling and resource allocation to ensure optimal APC coverage across specialties. Be accountable for APC performance relative to practice management measures (e.g., productivity, patient experience, and relevant dashboards). Ensure effective partnerships with physician leads in co-management of front-line teams. Support administrative functions, including compliance documentation. Develop and manage the APC operational budget aligned with financial goals. Monitor and report on APC workforce financial performance and analyze staffing models for cost-effectiveness and sustainability. Ensure APC services meet financial, operational, and patient access targets.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration:

Participate in strategic planning to align APC services with organizational goals and patient needs. Represent APC interests in hospital-wide committees, advocate for APC roles in policies, and contribute to long-range workforce and financial planning. Evaluate ROI for APC programs and make data-informed recommendations.

Qualifications

Master\'s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies required; MBA or MHA preferred.

Current, unrestricted California licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).

Minimum of 5 years of clinical APC experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive performance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a multi-specialty medical group or integrated health system.

Familiarity with California healthcare regulations and APC scope of practice.

Experience in budget development, financial performance management, and resource allocation within a clinical or operational leadership role.

Ability to integrate financial stewardship with workforce planning and clinical operations.

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and data analytics.

Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
