Associate Director, Principal Gifts Stewardship (Acknowledgements and Reporting) The University of Chicago Advancement Office engages alumni, current students, parents, and friends through activities on campus, worldwide, and online. The Stewardship and Events team promotes best practices in donor stewardship and events, supporting exemplary donor relations and engagement experiences that strengthen relationships with alumni, donors, and friends. Job Summary
This role develops and implements programs with senior leadership to lead a comprehensive University-wide donor relations program. It plans, organizes, and leads the donor program to recognize, steward, and cultivate donors at different giving levels. It develops and implements programs to support central principal gifts stewardship and engagement with donors who have cumulatively given $10M and above. Responsibilities
Contribute to the success of the comprehensive stewardship program to recognize, steward, and develop meaningful experiences for principal gift donors across the University. Manage the leadership acknowledgement process, drafting personalized communications and thanking donors in a timely and accurate manner. Assist in creation of annual narrative and financial reports detailing donor impact through engaging stewardship reports. Develop, write, and manage ad hoc donor reporting or writing projects. Maintain thorough and timely records and track stewardship activity in the University’s relationship database (Salesforce). Collaborate with colleagues across the University, especially with Leadership Engagement, Communications, and relationship managers on stewardship projects. Represent the donor voice in planning and executing donor-centric stewardship events and experiences aligned with fundraising goals. Engage with donors remotely and in person at visits, meetings, and events as needed. Demonstrate expertise in recognition, acknowledgements, donor engagement, and stewardship reporting. Develop University-wide standards for recognizing and stewarding the University’s most generous donors; contribute to policies and quality control guidelines for donor relations programs. Educate and train colleagues on policies and best practices through various communication tools and staff training. Participate in team, departmental, and all-staff meetings; pursue professional development opportunities. Guide the creation of communication strategies for publications related to donors and volunteers. Performs other related duties as needed or requested. Qualifications
Education
Minimum: college or university degree in a related field. Preferred: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in non-profit management, business, project management, or communications. Work Experience
Minimum: 5-7 years of work experience in a related discipline. Experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Familiarity with higher education advancement; ability to manage complex projects. Technical Skills
Knowledge of the University’s internal operations and technology tools (Salesforce, Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access). Working knowledge of fundraising, relationship management, and database software; ability to analyze and apply data from Excel. Preferred Competencies
Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and communication skills; ability to listen, write, edit, and communicate complex ideas clearly. Customer focus with strong service orientation; ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Integrity, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team; self-motivated with initiative; strong project management and detail orientation. Passion for development work and interest in university affairs. Working Conditions
