Overview The Medical Director for the SUD/MAT Program is a clinical leader responsible for the oversight and development of all medical aspects of the Substance Use Disorder and Medication-Assisted Treatment program at Hill Country Community Clinic. This role ensures high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with substance use disorders, in accordance with regulatory standards and clinical best practices. The Medical Director collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to drive integrated care, improve patient outcomes, and support whole-person treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight: Provide clinical oversight of the SUD/MAT program and ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements.

Supervise and support MAT-prescribing clinicians, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Lead case conferences and provide clinical consultation on complex SUD/MAT cases.

Program Development & Quality Improvement: Support program growth and innovation, including expansion of MAT services, behavioral health integration, and harm reduction efforts.

Establish and maintain clinical protocols and workflows in collaboration with clinical and quality teams.

Monitor clinical metrics, ensure documentation quality, and lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Regulatory: Ensure program compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, including DATA 2000, DEA, DHCS, and HRSA guidelines.

Maintain documentation and participate in audits, site visits, and grant reporting as needed.

Collaboration & Integration: Foster strong collaboration across departments including primary care, behavioral health, care management, and community outreach; represent the SUD/MAT program in organizational planning, partnerships, and external stakeholder meetings.

Patient Care: Maintain a reasonable panel of MAT and SUD patients (as appropriate) to remain clinically engaged and model excellence in care delivery.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure: Licensed MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of California; Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, or related field preferred; Current DEA license with authority to prescribe MAT (buprenorphine/naltrexone), and completion of MATE Act training requirements.

Experience: Demonstrated experience in MAT and SUD services; Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in addiction medicine, primary care, or psychiatry preferred; Minimum 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or program development experience preferred; Experience in an FQHC or working with underserved populations is highly desirable.

Skills & Abilities: Deep understanding of MAT models, harm reduction principles, and co-occurring disorders; Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills; Commitment to integrated, trauma informed and culturally responsive care.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position based at the Gold Street Medical clinic. May involve travel between multiple clinic sites in Redding and Round Mountain as needed.

Regular presence at clinic sites is required to provide leadership, supervision, and patient care.

Requires participation in after-hours clinical consultation as needed.

Location: Redding, CA – Gold Street Medical Clinic | Salary Range: $170,000-$226,000
