Summary
This position is for Physician - Chief Medical Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 26, 2025. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications is the 1st of each month; subsequent cut-off dates occur monthly or as vacancies arise. Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Hold the senior medical administrative and clinical position in the clinic. Oversee activities related to the delivery of medical care in the PACT model and clinical services such as routine medical peer review, quality improvement, and veteran experience. Discuss complex issues with the Regional Director and Assistant Chief, PCSL to effect resolution. Oversee the activities of the clinic group physicians and clinicians, including assisting in staff selections and directing clinic orientation processes for new staff. Report directly to the Regional Director and ultimately to the Chief of Primary Care. Develop cohesive collaborative relationships with managerial staff, including weekly meetings with the RN Manager and MSA Supervisor and other disciplines. Physician may be on rotation for extended hours once per month or less, with additional hours usually needed outside of shifts to provide Veteran care. Other Significant Responsibilities: Academic/Teaching/Training opportunities are available at several clinics with residents and/or medical students. Participation in Peer Review process. Act as surrogate for patients of colleagues when colleagues are on leave. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; subject to change based on agency needs. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)
The Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) provides student loan repayment opportunities. Eligibility requirements apply per VHA policy. Applicants must submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Qualifications and Requirements
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree from a school approved by VA for the year completed. Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state/territory/DC. Residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility (ACGME or AOA). Other non-US residencies with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S. may be considered if deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Subject to background/security investigation and possible probationary period. Onboarding requirements and acceptable forms of identification as required (I-9). REAL ID compliance is required for state IDs as of May 7, 2025. Pre-employment physical examination and participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program for VA Health Care Personnel. Preferred Experience:
Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine; 2-3 years of administrative & clinical supervisory experience. Physical Requirements:
