Overview
The Office of the County Counsel is recruiting for County Counsel Paralegals who provide assistance to civil attorneys in the preparation of legal documents, responses to Public Records Act requests, discovery requests, research, analysis, and hearing and trial preparation. Background: A background investigation will be conducted, including a DOJ/FBI fingerprint check and drug screening. Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Applicants must meet one of the following options: Option 1: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association. Option 2: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a post-secondary institution that requires a minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) units in law-related courses, accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau of Private Post-secondary and Vocational Education. Option 3: A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, plus a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who is active in the State Bar of California or has practiced in federal courts in California, and a written declaration from that attorney stating the applicant is qualified to perform legal tasks. Experience interviewing clients and witnesses, including expert witnesses; gathering documents and preparing responses to Public Records Act requests; preparing legal documents; preparing Pitchess motions; preparing and responding to discovery requests; summarizing records, deposition testimony, and information; assisting attorneys in the courtroom during civil trials; and using LexisNexis and/or WestLaw research systems is highly desirable.
