is a contract analytical laboratory owned by Air Liquide Electronics and is world-wide leader in supplying gases, specialty chemicals and services to a wide variety of industries. Balazs Nanoanalysis operates analytical labs around the world serving both internal and external clients. We support clients in a wide array of industries including semiconductor, biotechnology, aerospace/defense industry, solar, energy storage, automotive and many others. Our highly-skilled chemists assist other scientists and engineers from companies in these fields to support activities such as quality assurance, contamination studies, R&D and failure analysis. Role and Location
This position is for the Laboratory Supervisor with performance management responsibilities. The Organic Lab in Fremont, CA, located in the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley, is a specialized facility focused on a wide range of analytical measurements, including QC/QA, Failure Analysis, and R&D support. The lab utilizes techniques such as GC-TCD/GC-FID/GC-MS, IC, FTIR, Raman, UV-Vis, TGA/DSC, ATD-GCMS, HPLC/HPLC-MS, and NMR. The selected candidate will join a dynamic and fast-paced team of highly skilled chemists and scientists. Key responsibilities include: Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management:
Manage a team of chemists, scientists, and/or lab technicians. Oversee performance management, coaching and development, and goal setting. Manage and approve timesheets and PTO requests. Prioritize daily production activities and ensure adequate resources to meet customer requirements. Provide daily updates to the Laboratory Manager/Sr. Lab Manager.
Operational Excellence and Quality Assurance:
Ensure staff adherence to SOPs and manage change requests to keep SOPs current and accurate. Participate in the Quality/Intelex program, ensuring accurate evaluation, interpretation, and verification of data for analyses performed by the team. Ensure proper maintenance of the team's instrument fleet. Troubleshoot and apply analytical thinking to chemical analyses and processes. Support the Laboratory Manager/Sr. Lab Manager with procurement of consumables and spare parts. Sustain the 6S program. Identify and implement continuous improvements, demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset.
Training and Development:
Ensure the team is adequately trained, including preparing a cross-training plan based on a training gap analysis.
Production and Support:
Participate in production activities during team absences and periods of high capacity demand. Support activities such as quality assurance, contamination studies, R&D, and failure analysis.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Some holiday and weekend coverage may be required. Qualifications
Education Requirements: B.S. in Chemistry or a related field with 2-4 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-2 years of supervisory experience in a laboratory environment. General Requirements: Safety: Adhere to and promote all safety protocols, ensure a safe working environment, and maintain up-to-date safety training for the team. Flexibility: Adapt to changing customer needs and priorities, and provide support to other laboratory areas as needed. Technical Skills: Understanding of analytical techniques and experimental design, particularly GC (with TCD, FID, MSD) and LC-MS analyses. Computer Skills: Proficiency in analytical instrumentation software, Microsoft Office/Google Suite, and LIMS. Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work effectively in a team, with strong written and spoken communication skills. Personal Attributes: Self-motivated, proactive, organized, detail-oriented with good record-keeping skills, resourceful, and with strong problem-solving abilities. Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and wear required PPE. Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position in California is $110,000.00 to $115,000.00.
