The Knowledge Management Lawyer Central Lead will be responsible for leading the implementation of the firm's knowledge management strategy, including legal knowledge management, legal process improvement, substantive and KM technology training, and implementation of KM-related technologies for practice groups without dedicated KM assistance. Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with and assist the Knowledge Management Director and KM Department leadership in developing an overall KM strategy, setting goals to deliver on the department’s strategic objectives, and continue promoting a culture of knowledge and experience sharing across the firm; Manage Sidley’s KM Enablement Lawyers and Central KM Lawyers through clear articulation of the firm’s KM strategy and their role in fulfilling that strategy, providing them day-to-day support and leading professional development initiatives within the team; Provide KM Department leadership regular feedback on KM Enablement Lawyer and KM Central Lawyer performance and assist in the annual appraisal process; Work with the KM Central Lawyers and/or KM Partners in the firm’s practices that are not represented by a dedicated KM Lawyer to evaluate their practice’s current KM-related efforts, and to identify and prioritize new projects that will enhance the delivery of legal services and the efficiency of the practice; Direct the KM Enablement and Central Lawyers’ efforts to create and maintain a searchable knowledge repository (e.g., practice collaboration site) of exemplar forms, precedent, memos, checklists, data points, research materials, business development materials and other helpful content for their practices such as industry updates and client alerts; ensuring such content is continuously up-to-date and accurately recorded; Oversee the KM Enablement Lawyers’ vetting, testing and implementation of Generative AI legal technologies; Guide the KM Enablement and Central Lawyers in developing workflow improvements for common processes; Oversee the Central Lawyers’ customization and deployment of Foundation, the firm’s experience management platform, to create matter profiles for current and historic matters; Work with the Knowledge Management Director and the KM Department to evaluate, pilot and deploy innovative technology to reduce manual data collection and analysis, automate document creation, assist with legal research, and to otherwise support lawyers at the firm; Communicate and collaborate regularly with the KM Lawyers in other practices at the firm to share and develop best practices so as to increase efficiency within the KM Department and the practices across the firm; Contribute to active thought leadership by establishing processes for actively researching, monitoring and sharing developments and trends in KM or the legal environment, including training materials, memos, alerts, practice notes, industry updates, and reports from attendance at CLEs and conferences; Other duties as required by Knowledge Management Director and KM Department leadership. Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section.
