Position overview and responsibilities are below. The Geriatric Hospitalist delivers comprehensive medical care to hospitalized elderly patients, participates in teaching and leadership related to geriatric medicine, and works in a team-centric environment. A portion of time may be allocated to teaching residents and medical students as appropriate.

Position Purpose As a Geriatric Hospitalist, provides services dedicated to the delivery of comprehensive medical care to hospitalized elderly patients. Engages in clinical care, teaching, research, or leadership in geriatric medicine. Works to enhance hospital and health system performance with prompt and complete attention to patient needs including diagnosis, treatment, and procedures within scope of practice. Must be able to work in a team-centric environment and contribute to patient care. A component of time will be allocated to teaching residents and medical students as appropriate.

Nature and Scope The incumbent obtains history, examines, diagnoses, counsels, and treats patients within the geriatric and hospital medicine scope. Serves as a consult for geriatrics (defined here as age 65+ or age 55+ with complex conditions) and may act as primary attending when appropriate for transfer to hospital medicine. Makes critical medical decisions and collaborates with management staff, adhering to administrative policies. Participates in physician governance meetings and follows Renown Health medical staff policies. Stays current with medical advances through publications, in-services, and CME.

This position provides patient care.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Must have working-level English proficiency. Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in medical specialty.

Experience: Geriatric medicine experience preferred.

Licenses: Current and valid State of Nevada MD or DO license. DEA controlled substance license/registration required.

Certifications: Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (ABFM/AOA or ABIM/AOA). If Board Eligible at hire, certification must be obtained within two years of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. AHA certification preferred; alternatives acceptable per policy.

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and able to complete online learning, forms, and benefits enrollment. Credentialing through Renown’s Medical Staff and/or Payor Credentialing as applicable.
