Authorization Coordinator – Temporary Employment Job Summary

Duration is approximately 6 months with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

Support various administrative functions including CRM messages, telephone encounters, referrals, APeX in-baskets, scanning, filing, authorizations, and billing.

Ensure accurate and timely communication between patients, clinical staff, and departments to optimize unit efficiency.

Maintain routine clerical operations and uphold UCSF's House and Telephone Standards.

Collaborate with colleagues to respond to evolving priorities and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.

Play a key role in service recovery efforts and patient experience improvement initiatives.

Provide coverage across multiple UCSF campuses as needed and scheduled.

Department Description UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees on leave, or temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Temporary employees may become candidates for future career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent with four years related experience; or college degree and 6 months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

APeX/EPIC experience

Experience with in-person client service

Authorization experience

Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding, and experience with at least two Office-type software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel). Proven ability to navigate multiple patient records systems. Able to sit at a computer terminal with telephone headset for extended periods.

Ability to analyze situations, prioritize, develop solutions and make recommendations.

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to use good judgment and work independently, occasionally under deadlines

Excellent customer service and communication/interpersonal skills, both over the telephone and in person

Basic math skills

Demonstrated knowledge of medical practice terminology

Demonstrated administrative/office coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in healthcare, including patient scheduling, insurance verification, and medical record data abstraction.

Experience in ambulatory settings.

Prior experience with appointment, ancillary service, or surgical scheduling.

Bilingual or multilingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, and Russian).
