Director and Actuary (CARM/ERM) – The Standard

The Standard is seeking a Director and Actuary within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Governance team in Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management (CARM). This role provides key leadership on risk management initiatives, including model governance and assumption governance, reporting of metrics, development of corporate risk management policies and procedures, and support for product development, pricing, and other actuarial functions. The position interfaces with our four main product lines and with colleagues across CARM, including ALM, Actuarial Modeling and Actuarial Transformation. You will prepare reports for and occasionally deliver presentations to senior leaders and may lead committees, events, and initiatives within the actuarial community. Key responsibilities include approaching business challenges from a broad corporate perspective, collaborating with a wide range of functions, and applying a strong technical background. Occasional travel for planning, team building, or conferences may be required.

Responsibilities

Lead and support risk management activities, including model governance and assumption governance.

Develop and report key risk metrics, targets, and tolerances; contribute to corporate risk management policies and procedures.

Support product development, pricing, and other actuarial functions across business units.

Interface with four product lines and cross-functional teams within CARM (e.g., ALM, Actuarial Modeling, Actuarial Transformation).

Prepare reports and deliver presentations to the Chief Actuary, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and other executives.

Lead committees, events, and initiatives within the broader actuarial community.

Skills and Background Education:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred.

Certification:

ASA designation, or equivalent, required with 7-10 years of actuarial work experience.

FSA preferred

Skills:

Experience analyzing complex issues using quantitative and qualitative factors; strong communication and leadership capabilities.

Ability to guide top actuaries within product groups or market segments; financial and actuarial domain expertise.

Proven track record in developing and executing actuarial initiatives with enterprise impact.

Understanding of insurance product dynamics (retirement, annuities, life, disability) is highly preferred.

Experience with actuarial modeling, M&A, LDTI, asset adequacy testing, and valuation is highly preferred.

Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives with measurable results.

Salary range: $143,750.00 - $229,750.00. Positions will be posted for at least 5 days from original posting date. The Standard is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
