Senior Networking Software Engineer II at Axon. This role is based in Seattle with a hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesday–Friday, remote on Mondays unless an accommodation is approved. As a contributor in the APX platform engineering organization on the CloudNet team, you will deliver solutions to real-time problems faced by mission-critical cloud-native services. You will focus on high quality and reliability, work with sovereign operations teams worldwide, and influence the engineering organization by guiding product placement within the broader Axon networking ecosystem. What You’ll Do
Work on a mixed infrastructure/software team that owns the most important networking-related aspects of Axon systems. Lead Axon’s journey into Istio service mesh applications that underpin future scaling strategy. Build and operate features while stewarding existing components within strict regulatory regimes (e.g., FedRAMP), and manage vulnerabilities with timely precision. Advise software engineers on networking topics through design reviews, ad hoc questions, and pair programming sessions. Automate routine maintenance of the cloud platform with minimal downtime (4x9s availability). Example: TLS certificate management and automation in large systems. What You Bring
Ability to gain CJIS clearance to ensure full US production access. 10+ years of experience working on globally diverse 24/7 high-volume systems. Demonstrated experience and interest in networking topics, including infrastructure (VPNs, TLS cert management, debugging network routing issues) and services (service mesh applications, rate limiting, public/private ingress/egress). Excellent problem-solving skills for debugging cloud-native distributed systems. Familiarity with GitOps for software delivery. Design and delivery of infrastructure-as-code on public cloud (Axon uses Azure, but other experience is acceptable). Experience operating components or services in Kubernetes clusters at scale. Experience in one or more languages used at Axon: Python, Golang, Scala/Java. Empathy to support the needs of software engineers with varying levels of networking awareness. Benefits
