About The Role We’re looking for a Technical Product Manager to join a team responsible for crafting a software development experience that internal AppFolio developers will love, enabling higher velocity and improved developer experience across product components. Developer Productivity Mission We’re evolving AppFolio’s internal developer platform to support clear domain ownership and continuous delivery, so every team can build high-quality software quickly and confidently. The Developer Productivity team empowers engineers with scalable architecture, tools, and guidance that remove complexity and boost efficiency. We focus on high-leverage work, support a platform-first mindset, and step in to solve critical issues when no one else can. Your Mission The successful candidate will elevate engineering velocity and experience by delivering a new Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) platform. Your mission is to identify and prioritize the most impactful developer experience challenges within our day-to-day development tools and processes, inspiring the team to deliver innovative solutions that empower product development teams to deploy hundreds of code commits weekly with increasing quality, speed, and happiness. You will advocate for simplified and stabilized deployment experiences, partner with fellow TPMs to establish documented frameworks and best practices, and collaborate with engineers across the organization to generalize their solutions, ultimately leading the charge towards true continuous deployment for all product components. Responsibilities
Work with engineering leaders and technical product managers from other business segments to shape the technical vision and deliver customer value Lead use case development, requirements gathering, and translate product and developer needs into platform concepts Improve the internal developer platform by promoting an ecosystem of tools and best practices to deliver customer value Own a platform product lifecycle from requirements gathering through production, delivery, and adoption Identify success metrics to evaluate platform impact, adoption, and developer experience Build business cases addressing technology needs and efficiency opportunities; pitch on the “what” and “why” Provide technical expertise to identify, evaluate, and develop cost-effective solutions Define platform capabilities, study usability, and analyze trends for opportunities Develop subject matter expertise in strategic focus areas and advocate for platform improvements Be the go-to source for benefits of new platform capabilities Make trade-offs between possible and desirable, considering technical feasibility Engage with product development and platform teams: facilitate discussions, refine requirements, support testing and validation, contribute to design decisions Meet with engineering leaders to shape the platform roadmap Plan platform improvement launches and adoption strategies for downstream teams Communicate business problems and developer challenges to internal and external audiences Qualifications / You know you’re the right fit if…
Excellent organizational, analytical, and attention to detail skills Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, enterprise software, and IT delivery with governance, compliance, and security considerations Understanding of software architecture and ability to articulate a developer-friendly platform vision Ability to work under limited supervision and drive results independently Proven track record delivering large, complex projects on time and within scope Ability to develop and execute a product roadmap Entrepreneurial mindset with willingness to try different approaches Knowledge of product/program management principles, agile/scrum, and UX-centered design Ability to balance UX, DX, and ease of implementation in platform improvements Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills Proven ability to build cross-functional relationships and collaborate across functions Technical credibility to lead teams of developers and stay current with tech trends Enjoy describing and evangelizing technology’s positive impacts Additional emphasis on adopting new platform capabilities Additional Skills And Knowledge
Knowledge of software requirements gathering and use-case development Experience with lean product planning and scoping techniques (e.g., user story mapping, design thinking) Experience with roadmapping tools (Jira Advanced Roadmaps, Aha, Productboard, Roadmunk, ProductPlan) Experience with agile tools (Jira, GitHub Issues, Trello) Experience with internal developer platform launches and adoption Familiarity with CD/CI tools and platforms (Helm, Backstage, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) Familiarity with service orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio, etcd) Location Find out more about our locations by visiting our site. Compensation & Benefits The compensation this role may pay ranges from $114,400 to $143,000 base pay. Actual compensation is determined by factors including skills, education, experience, and internal equity.
