Software Architect – Wind River Orchestration and Automation Platform

Wind River is a global leader in delivering software for mission-critical intelligent systems. We power billions of systems that require high security, safety, and reliability in automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial, medical, and telecommunications. We enable the intelligent machine economy and support large-scale, distributed cloud infrastructure for 5G and edge computing. About The Opportunity

Wind River is at the forefront of enabling mission-critical, distributed cloud infrastructure for 5G and intelligent edge applications. The Wind River Conductor product serves as the orchestration and automation backbone—providing a centralized, policy-driven platform to deploy, manage, and optimize applications and infrastructure across thousands of geographically dispersed sites. This is a unique opportunity to shape the architecture of a platform redefining how the industry builds and operates large-scale distributed cloud systems. Your Role

As a Software Architect, you will lead the architecture for Wind River Conductor, the orchestration and automation backbone for mission-critical, distributed cloud infrastructure. Define the vision, set the roadmap, and architect solutions for operations at scale and zero-touch provisioning across thousands of sites worldwide. Balance strategic decision-making with hands-on prototyping to validate designs. Collaborate with global engineering teams, customers, and open-source communities to shape the future of telecom and intelligent edge automation. You will also engage in targeted hands-on development and prototyping to validate architectural approaches and maintain a deep understanding of the product. If you are a strategic thinker who thrives on designing complex systems, but also enjoy hands-on work—building prototypes, reviewing code, or troubleshooting architectural issues—this is your stage. You will collaborate with Cloud team engineers and managers, other architects, product lines, groups, and teams across the company and with external customers. You will have opportunities to engage with and contribute to internal and external open-source communities. You will report to the Senior Director of Cloud Architecture within the CTO organization of Wind River. In Your Daily Job You Will

Define and maintain the architectural vision for Wind River Conductor, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security across thousands of distributed sites. Lead architectural decision-making for core automation and orchestration capabilities, balancing technical innovation with product delivery priorities. Design architectures for operations at scale, enabling consistent, reliable, and repeatable management of thousands of geographically distributed sites. Architect zero-touch provisioning frameworks that securely onboard new sites and systems without manual intervention, using policy-driven automation and declarative service definitions. Prototype and validate key product changes, emerging technologies, and architectural patterns to guide implementation teams. Partner with engineering managers to align design decisions with long-term platform strategy. Collaborate with customers, product management, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable architecture solutions. Represent Wind River in industry forums and open-source communities, influencing standards and best practices. Mentor engineers on architectural principles and design trade-offs. How You Will Contribute

Core Technical Expertise (must have): Cloud-native architecture: Kubernetes, container orchestration, multi-cloud environments (Private Cloud, AWS, Azure, GCP). Automation & orchestration frameworks: Cloudify, ArgoCD, Terraform, TOSCA models, ONAP. Scalable distributed systems: Designing for high availability, security, and operational automation at global scale. Expertise in large-scale distributed system design, including federation, fault isolation, and asynchronous orchestration. Understanding of zero-touch provisioning architectures, including secure bootstrap mechanisms, device attestation, and policy-driven deployment pipelines. Proven track record in designing for immutable infrastructure, declarative configuration management, and event-driven automation to achieve predictable and repeatable outcomes at scale. Service modeling & APIs: REST API design, data modeling, and integration strategies. Technical Proficiency for Prototyping & Deep Product Understanding (strongly preferred): Backend: Python, relational databases (PostgreSQL). Frontend: TypeScript, modern JS frameworks, state management (Redux or equivalent). Security: Secure coding practices, authentication/authorization models. Desirable Experience
