DEPARTMENT: FINANCE POSITION TITLE: ACCOUNTING CLERK II STATUS: REGULAR NON-EXEMPT/FULL-TIME COMPENSATION: $23.00-26.00 PER HOUR (DOE) GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

At least 5 years of experience in a business and computer-based accounting environment.

An associate's degree in business accounting is a plus

Ability to build and maintain spreadsheets

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to research and confirm TSA policy

High degree of accounting or bookkeeping knowledge

Detail oriented; having a strong attention to detail

Team player; polite, courteous and respectful of others

Excellent customer service mindset

Excellent use of verbal and written communication

Excellent telephone and personable skills

Strong analytical and research skills

Proficient typing and keypad skills

Independent decision making

Ability and willingness to keep information confidential

Must be able to retain training that is given

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

Knowledge of the capabilities and functions of an Accounting Financial Software

Skilled in the purposeful use of the Microsoft Suite

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Works to meet the mission of the Salvation Army and NW-AK/DHQ Finance Dept. Make decisions independently and exhibit a high degree of time management skills. Maintain a more frequent flow of communication with corps officers and administrative staff with a complete understanding of accounting systems, policies, and procedures. Primarily reports to Assistant Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process payables and income pertaining to assigned portfolio

Knowledgeable in grant source coding

Includes verifying all back-up is in place prior to posting

May consist of payroll manual checks

Process assigned check runs

Independently research and successfully resolve issues pertaining to payables and income

Must know how to read the chart of accounts and determine correct coding

Establish and maintain electronic files

Create professional communications and relationships in the field

Back up other clerk(s) in the event of an absence

Research W-9 and resolve Vendor Card set up issues

Complete all Corps related filing if needed

Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis

Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

Ability to operate telephone

Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)

Ability to access and produce information from a computer

Ability to understand written information

Health Insurance:

Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options:

An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans:

Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave:

The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave:

12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:

Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.

Paid Holidays:

13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
