Reporting to the Program Director, the Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider. This role is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, and for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients. The position also oversees day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials used in and around hyperbaric chambers. All Healogics employees must perform job responsibilities according to Healogics policies, hospital policies, accrediting organizations, federal and state regulations, and CMS guidelines, as applicable. Essential Functions/Responsibilities Performs hyperbaric chamber operator duties, including: Preparing, educating and orienting patients about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy; assisting with lifting or transferring patients per local policy; preparing patients for treatment and answering questions. Administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed; monitoring and controlling chamber equipment performance; observing patient responses during sessions and making adjustments for safety and effectiveness. Entering daily treatment and wound care clinic data; maintaining complete and accurate patient records. Operating and maintaining hyperbaric chamber(s) and related oxygen systems as required. Participating in the safety program, including safety drills. Responsible for hyperbaric equipment/supplies and for safe operation and maintenance of chamber(s) and ancillary components, including: Evaluating equipment and supplies to ensure safety requirements are met before use. Restricting or removing potentially hazardous items. Collaborating with the Program Director and Healogics to coordinate upgrades, modifications, and repairs in compliance with safety standards. Collaborates with facility management and department staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations; helps develop and revise department policies and procedures and operating and maintenance documents. Leads the hyperbaric safety program activities and initiatives, including: Maintaining a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility and using approved decompression procedures for all exposures. Reviewing safety incidents, collecting equipment/patient safety information, and providing in-service training related to hyperbarics. Conducting quarterly safety drills and informing personnel of special work conditions. Assisting the Medical Director in reviewing safety-related events and documenting learnings. Maintaining department compliance with NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code) for hyperbarics. Reviewing and updating departmental safety policies and incorporating new policies as appropriate. Serving on the hospital’s safety or environment of care committee, as appropriate. If CMA or LPN, may function as a Documentation Assistant (scribe) per Healogics policy. Performs other duties as required. Required Education, Experience And Credentials High School Diploma or GED Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) preferred Pre- or post-hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course; if pre-hire, course completed within the past 5 years Pre- or post-hire completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course (from Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine) Current healthcare professional certification or license as applicable in state of practice to maintain throughout employment (e.g., RN, LPN, LVN, CMA/RMA, CHS, CHN, CHT, CNA/LNA, CHWS, PT/PTA, etc.); for some roles may include U.S. Department of Defense training credentials State Variations Ohio: current license as RN/LPN/RT/CHT as approved by NBDHMT; complete Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course as approved by relevant bodies Two (2) or more years’ healthcare experience preferred; wound or critical care experience preferred; supervisory experience preferred Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification Hyperbaric equipment and systems troubleshooting Attention to detail; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Basic math; organization and time-management Problem-solving; customer service and follow-up skills Ability to stay calm and relax patients Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Physical Demands Stationary position for extended periods; keyboarding for long periods Moving about; lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance; pushing/pulling Bending/stooping; reaching, grasping and tactile tasks Visual and auditory requirements Work Environment Primarily indoor patient care environment Exposure to hazards (blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, gases) Exposure to mechanical equipment and proximity to moving objects; electrical currents The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $29.03-$36.60 per hour. This range is an estimate based on qualifications, education, experience, geography and other considerations permitted by law.
