Overview
Saint Louis University School of Medicine is recruiting an Assistant Dean of Simulation to enhance and develop simulation programming in the medical school program curriculum. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills and serves as a member of the medical school leadership team, particularly relating to Curricular Affairs. It is also a key administrative position in the School of Medicine Simulation Center, a 4,000 square foot space under the directorship of the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills and supported by an education specialist and coordinator.
Responsibilities Key job functions include:
School of Medicine simulation curriculum development and planning
Direct simulation instruction and faculty development
Contribution to Simulation Center administrative processes
Collaborate with educational stakeholders and independently organize and manage projects
Identify avenues for simulation growth in Core Clinical (clerkship) and Pre-Residency (post-clerkship) phases
Revise and develop simulation curriculum aligned with programmatic needs
Develop and allocate resources to support simulation programming (facilitators, equipment, staff)
Contribute to assessment and grading processes for medical students
Act as a facilitator for existing simulation programming in Foundations, Core Knowledge, and Core Clinical Phases
Revise, develop, and deliver training processes for instructional faculty
Represent new program development within and external to the School of Medicine program
Maintain and contribute to existing Simulation Center processes
Contribute to Simulation Center strategic planning, including goal-setting, budgeting, program outcome evaluation, and process review
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
MD or DO
Board certification or board eligibility in the appropriate specialty
Simulation fellowship training strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Understanding of the principles and practice of simulation-based education
Understanding of the functions, roles, and responsibilities of a simulation center
Organizational skills
Verbal and written communication skills
Ability to co-create and deploy curriculum in alignment with course, clerkship, and institutional objectives
Ability to relate to students, faculty, institutional personnel, and the public
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Time Commitment The time requirements for this position are estimated at 0.3 FTE. The remaining 0.7 FTE will be working as an emergency medicine physician in a Level 1 trauma center.
